MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police arrested eight suspects, ages 10 to 18, and were searching Tuesday for at least eight more who were part of a mob who beat a man brain dead late Sunday night with bats, boards and shovels, police said.
Milwaukee Police Deputy Chief Leslie Barber said the children banded together to attack 36-year-old Charlie Young Jr., of Milwaukee, after he punched one of them in the mouth for throwing an egg at him.
``There was some sort of lapse in between him striking one of the kids and when they all got together and decided to find him,'' Barber said in an interview.
He did not know how much time occurred between the incidents.
Young was in critical condition Tuesday at a local hospital. An official there did not want the hospital named to protect Young's safety.
Police said the attack happened around 10:30 p.m Sunday after Young chased a small group of boys who threw an egg at him. He caught a 14-year- old boy and punched him in the mouth, knocking out a tooth, police said.
After assembling a group of 18 or 20, the children chased Young onto the porch of a house on the city's north side and pummeled him, leaving blood splattered from floor to ceiling, police said.
Young managed to briefly escape into the house, but the mob dragged him back outside and beat him until police responded to a neighbor's 911 call, the landlord said.
Blood was splattered on the floor, walls and even the 9-foot porch ceiling at the scene of the attack. The footprints of emergency workers who had to walk through puddles of blood to secure the scene Sunday night could be seen.
``It was unhuman what they did,'' the victim's brother, Keith Young, told WTMJ-TV. ``If they had any heart about how they would want their family or brother treated, they wouldn't have done that.''
Authorities did not know why Young was nearly four miles from his home, whether the children knew him and where the confrontation started.
It also was unknown what charges the boys in custody will face, but they could be charged as soon as Tuesday.
WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee reported the eight boys in custody confessed.
Barber said the children and one adult in custody were not part of an organized gang.
But Lucille Bennett of the Midtown Neighborhood Association said, ``The residents are tired of being prisoners in their own homes.''

UPDATE - Mr. Young died last night of his injuries. This may have been
the basis for the fake article that Wong posted earlier.

After reading newsstories like this, why do people still wonder why I regard youths as psychopaths?
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.
