I prefer to watch an R Rated movie with my daughter in the comfort of my home where i can be there to ask any question or Fast forward to anything I find objectionable. She's watched LOTR, TTT and recently the Matrix Reloaded with me (I ff through the rave sex scene, there's no amount of parental supervision that makes me feel comfortable with her watching Keanu's ass and sex in action)

Depending on the type of violence I don't have a problem with it, cartoon violence like the Matrix fights are OK with me as long as a parent is there but I wouldn't watch something like Chainsaw with her, thats just asking for trouble. But Kill Bill is about a strong female character and I like my daughter to see that (not the bloody sex and gore, but the positive idea of a woman taking care fo herself) it wasn't until I had a daughter that I really paid attention to the twisted messages Hollywood and society in general sends to women, especially young girls.

That's how I was raised watching violent movies, I'm all good now.

Actually, it is important for a parent to teach his kids about sex at a fairly early age (certainly before 12, never mind 16 which is where most "traditional" parents seemed to draw the line), otherwise they'll just get their information elsewhere. Mind you, the sight of Keanu Reeves' ass in "Matrix Reloaded" would not be the ideal way to introduce the subject ...

The funny thing is my daughter tends to cast the movies in her head as she is watching it, so she says Neo is me in Matrix Reloaded and she is Persophene (Because my daughter always must be the prettiest woman in a movie. No she does not agree with me that Trinity is pretty) When we saw LOTR and TTT I was Aragorn and she was Arwen. Its cute to see their minds working like that and making those connections.

Ah, I see what you mean. I saw some idiot bring young children into Jurassic Park 3, these movies tend to be drummed up to be violent and such, and the two children kept running up and down the aisles, making shreiking noises and such. And don't get me started on the two 4 year olds with the spitballs behind me at AOTC.

My parents took me to watch Jurrasic Park (The first) when it came out while I was around 5 or 6. I had my eyes closed half the time, and had nightmares about dinosaurs for the next 3 years.

What would you people consider a reasonable age to watch Kill Bill? Yes, it's rated R, but isn't it entirely possible for a person of younger age to watch it and not be emotionally scarred, scared, etc?

Yeah, some person brought a kid to watch Matrix Reloaded... The whole time the kid behind me was going "WHOA!!!" or "WOW!"

13-15, personally. But it would really depend on the movie and what kind of content was in it.

She's five. She understands that the bad men want to hurt Neo and that neo has to proetct himself. She understands that Neo has magical computer powers and its funny to see her trying to imitate the burly brawl while she's watching it making punching and kicking sounds.

She also is smart in that she picks up these weird little nuances like when the Balrog is chasing the Fellowship in Moria, her mom asked me why is the balrog chasing them and she turns to her mother and says "Mommy the monster wants the little boy's ring, aren't you watching the movie."

That was a proud daddy closet Tolkien fan moment. I have been thinking about reading the Hoibbit to her at bedtime.

Well, I don't know if you've seen it yet yourself, but I would probably wait a very long time to show her End of Eva. Definately a little too scary for a little kid, and some of the imagery is way too intense, as well.

The whole "It was a very bad day at the End of the World" angle would certainly not be very appropriate.

But you should see that for yourself soon enough.

Kill Bill is a different kind of R rating in my mind. I think Mike's plan that you should screen movies first for children is a great idea. I think 12-13 year olds can handle the violence of Kill Bill with no problem. Really, the violence is so over the top as to be overly phony. For a young child though, it will probably appear to be too real. And the sexual overtones, pedophilia, rape, etc. Well, I would not want a young child to see that either.

I suppose for me, Id draw the line around 7th grade for this movie. I think the violence can be handled by a 6th grader, but not some of the other stuff.

R ratings are usually different.

Sure you can bring a kid in. But the rating is supposed to be telling you that the movie is inappropriate for children that are 6 or 7.

Shit, I thought Kill Bill was at the limit of my ability to handle violence, and I've been seeing this kind of stuff for quite awhile. I just wanted to curl up in a blanket in the corner of my room immeditately afterwards. I went over to DPDarkPrimus' house and watched him play Vice City instread, which was an OK option, too.
