California wildfires

Post by Crayz9000 »

Well, given that I live in Tujunga, about twenty miles from the nearest fire (Simi Valley - it recently crossed into the San Fernando Valley), I figured I might as well remark about the fire. I guess the media's been covering it a lot, but anyway.

There are also some small fires burning in Mexico (Small? Yeah, right.) I wonder how the Mexicans are dealing with those.

Anyway, when the winds started blowing the fire into the San Fernando Valley, naturally the smoke came with it. Around 4 PM today Cal State Northridge "got smoked like a beehive" as my mom put it. No live embers thank goodness, just a bunch of cool ash. It was still annoying, and they closed the campus down at 4, although it took until about 5 PM to notify everyone and clear the campus.

So how's it bothering the others of you who live here in California?

I live about a 30 min drive away from Downtown LA.

For the last two days, the car has been covered in ashes. Air quality is pretty bad, yesterday the sky was literally an orange hue for the majority of the day. We didn't get much smoke, but a fair amount of ash.

Air quality is pretty bad as expected, and the ashes are really piling up on the ground. We didn't have PE today due to the ash...

If you go home and pick your nose, I bet you your mucus is going to be black.

The sky had an orangish tint to it here in Irvine and the air smelled a bit like that of soot.

My parents could see flames on a neighboring mountain but thankfully not anymore (they live elsewhere in Cali)

Our sunset was more orange than normal, but Im not sure it has anything to do with you guys. I just think we had a smoggy day, we are too farth north for the smoke to reach here.

Anyway, my friends brother had a bunch of buddies from LA over for the weekend. We all saw the fires on TV and they were stranded here cause the flights out of SJO were delayed or cancelled.
