It's so freakin' orange outside. I think the fire is getting closer. The color outside is akin to a bad post-apocalypse sci-fi hue.

Actually, that'd look pretty cool.
(If you ignore the part about the fire coming for you.)

Hey kid, if the fire is getting closer, you should be leaving. Don't be overconfident.

I'm actually a good distance away. But I'm the neighboring county besides one of the bigger fires. There's little chance it can spread over here, all we have are dirt and rocks.jegs2 wrote:I'll second that recommendation. LP, what kind of car is it? and did you check the air filter? it shouldn't choke up like that unless there isn't enough air to facilitate combustion. That's bad, bro...how far are you from the fires?Lord Poe wrote:I live in southeast L.A. and work in Cerritos. Cars and ground are covered in ash even out here. My eyes are burning and the air smells of smoke, and there's HARDLY any wind!
This is bad news. My car even konked out this morning, and needed some carb cleaner in the air intake to start it again.
Advice: You should try to stay in as much as possible, man, and run the air conditioner. Check it often, too (The filter) also, run your car air conditioner, if at all possible (Most newer cars have an air conditioner filter which may help with your respiratory distress.)

We get massive bushfires here every summer, it's scary that in the middle of a massive suburban area (Wentworthville for anyone in Sydney) that I can see the smoke. When I drive up the coast it's scary to see the size and severity of the smoke, when a huge forest is reduced to many black stumps.

Australian settlers brought Euclyptous (sp?) trees to California in the 1800's. They grow pretty well here in the arid climate. They also make wildfires worse than they might otherwise be. But you folks in Australia already know about that.Gandalf wrote:We get massive bushfires here every summer, it's scary that in the middle of a massive suburban area (Wentworthville for anyone in Sydney) that I can see the smoke. Do you live with them? While it looks like the weather will help out this weekend, Id take any order to evacaute seriously. I heard in some places the fires where moving 2-3 miles an hour. That does not sound fast until you realize in 12 hours thats 24-36 miles.Shinova wrote:See? The Australians ARE trying to take over the world, even as we speak!
With that out of the way, my parents received a voluntary evacuation order, so serious but not too serious yet.

No, they live about fifty or so miles away from me, so my mom notified me over the phone about what was going on.TrailerParkJawa wrote:Do you live with them? Southeast LA is pretty far from any fire, but the problem is that the Santa Anas blew just about all of the smoke from the San Bernadino fires directly over southeast LA.Chardok wrote:LP, what kind of car is it? and did you check the air filter? it shouldn't choke up like that unless there isn't enough air to facilitate combustion. I pity the people living in Alhambra and that area.

I used to live in Colorado so I know how freaky these fires can be. When I was in 8th grade, one of my friends from school had her house destroyed by a wildfire! Luckily she was ok, and she lived way out in the boonies. They stopped the fire about 20 miles from my house. Still...I lived near the top of a mountain so if I got on my roof I could see the fire coming over a hill. FREAKY

Perhaps Xenophobe didn't realise Trytostaydead lives in California, and that he was near the fire. Personally, I just skim-read the first post, and thought he was talking about a normal orange sunset.Colonel Olrik wrote:That's sick, not humorous.Xenophobe3691 wrote:LOL, I love it when that happens. talk about it. The day i moved city last year, there was a really nasty fire at Toowoomba. I got trapped in the city and had to take the LONG way around to go East. That means two hours instead of ten mins. The bottom of the range was raining ash.Gandalf wrote:We get massive bushfires here every summer, it's scary that in the middle of a massive suburban area (Wentworthville for anyone in Sydney) that I can see the smoke.
