What the quiet man said would not happen has happened :)

I now sit back and prepare to watch the infighting that will ensue :)

Oh what a pity, I was hoping he'd stay long enough to doom the tories in the next election... not that they need much dooming.

So, from what I've gathered, no other politial party in Britian has any chance, ever? So Blair is essentially Lord Emperor of the British Isles until he retires/dies?

To be honest i'm not suprised. However i don't think Labour is gonna have as easy a time of it as people think in the next election. Labours popularity has fallen dramatically in recent months and laughable as it sounds the Lib Dems may well make a good challenge. Personally i'd vote for none them. The Monster Raving Mad Looney Party shall be getting my vote.

I doubt he will have more than one extra term (just so his reign out lasts Maggie’s) and then Brown will take over for a term, by which point the Tories may have a chance.

I'm thinking there'll be a much lower turnout at the next general election, faced with an unpopular majority and a hopeless opposition, people just won't vote.

And to be honest, I won't miss IDS, William Hague pissed off me off more than any Tory leader ever has, but in the end, I had some grudging respect for the man, and he was definately the most charismatic fellow they've had for quite some time.

First Maggy, then IDS. The Tories seem to be making a trend of the whole backstabbing thing...

You missed out Major and Hague. ("who?" I hear you cry...)

I'm really annoyed, because although the Tories are incompetant buffoons, New Labour are incompetant lying spin mongers, and I was relying on the Tories to grab enough right wing votes to at leats get a hung Parliament at the next election.

Bollocks to that, it seems.

*sigh* let's change the whole system. Red Ken for President!

No, with the way things are he is "first among equels" {read lord high executioner} untill his party gets sick of him and deposes him.

No, what you need is proportional representation, just like us colonials :P

Yeah sounds great, 5 years of stagnation with nothing at all getting done.

Anyway in the event of a hung parliament a Labour-Lib Dem coalition would be formed and I dare not imagine what to expect from such a monster.

All in all I find it very amusing that people are raking Labour over the hot coals over one issue - the War in Iraq and that got more support from the Tories than it did in the Labour camp, never mind that Labour have been keeping tight control on the economy and boosting public services across the board.

They need another term or two to prepare the country’s infrastructure so that when the Tories get in and start taking a sledge hammer to it, the public services don’t collapse overnight.

Now we watch the ensuing chaos :)

Portillo is the one they should pick if they want to get anywhere, but he's not standing. Can't blame him either. Who would want to take control at this stage?

Michael "The Weasel" Howard is the front runner, I think he is far to linked to the old Tory sleazy image to have any chance of getting the country to vote his way in a general election.....

and what a shame it would be if they didn't :)

The problem is the Tories don't have a candidate I can even be bothered to dislike.

On a lighter note i am serriously considering forming a Northern Irish branch of the Monster Mad Raving Loony Party. How would i go about that. I think i'd get the student votes.

IF only cos i actually like Charles Kennedy, the rest just seem like bastards, and Lib dems are probably the closest to the green party that won't make me feel like a hippie by voting for them. Damn hippies.
