Seriously, it may knock out some satellites and (possibly) Northern power grids. I don't think it'll have much effect on me down here. The powere grids aren't that inter-connected, and Florida's cut-outs worked during the NYC blackout.

Why isn’t that ever an issue of politics? Because you don’t live in a democracy. You live in a plutocracy. Money rules.

That shouldn't be an issue, if its not already plugged into a decent surge protector your a foolish fool. Your internet connection also should run though such a device.Chardok wrote:Think we should unplug important sensitive electronics? (Power surges) Personally, I'm tak9ing down my comp altogether.

Is this the kind of thing where we should be able to see an aurora? Is the storm likely to last more than a few hours so that we can actually see it when it gets dark?

Forget part of that, read the article more closely, but if it does hit, is it likely to be visible in Oregon latitudes to the casual viewer?

The article said the sun's highest period of activity ended in 2000 or 2001

am posting this here and in N&P Click this link then minimize the browser, come back to it in a few minutes so you don't have to endure it's horrendously long load time. It is simply the most spectacular view of the flares you will get. It's Space.com's feed from SOHO (solar observation something-or-other.) it is, as I stated, spectacular. (Oh, it's the last 48 hours or so of sun activity.) I wonder what those very bright spots are to the lower left of the frame? Maybe even bigger flares? I know outer beams aren't as telling as sunspots, but if you watch the flares, they seem to be linking two bright ares together when they "Pop" really neat stuff.
