Yeah that couple of minutes during my 48 hours as FEMA Law Enforcement/Marshal law (without teeth) duty makes me feel I should be allowed in.

Of course what really annoy's me about Penal Firebrigades is guess who bring's lot's of dibilitating drugs, alcohol, and hallucinagines along with weed & acts as Pimps during large scale fires. If you answered BoP Guards you are correct, working base camp and getting whole line crews on medical because they scored nasty shit from the gaurds (in more ways then one, were talking VD+laced pot)

And in terms of Dibilitating, some of the uppers they give firefighters to do 48 and 12 *48 hours fighting fire, twelve hours sleep* has really nasty comedown effects.

note a 48&12 for those outside of ER's, firefight etc. is a 72 hour period in which you work 3*16 hour shifts with two breaks of 6 hours in between them)

It's times like this you have to wonder why not just get all the twats that make such stupid rules and line them along where the firestorm is. Then get something like Firefly from Thunderbirds and use the explosive cannon to take out the fire and anymore of the bureacratic bullshit.

We used to do that; carpet bomb fires with old B-17s, until the price
of bombs got too expensive

FAEs would make a lovely effect if only you could authorise the use of heavy explosives near civilian areas.

Maybe someone should make a giant vacuum cleaner...

Actually FEA's would work great, just drop one into the burn and watch it suck all of the O2 away from the head, the fire will burn out.

Actually, wouldn't an FAE create a flashback situation? The heat and fuel are still there, and as oxy became available again (as air rushed in due to thermal convection, wind, etc.) the fire would only rage again, and quite explosively at first. I know this works with small fires, like using dynamite to extinguish a burning oil well, but thousands of acres of wood on fire?

Back on-topic, I often fear what rampant consumerism/capitalism is doing to the US. I'm not a Luddite or a communist, but it seems like too many things are decided anymore by short-term monetary gains rather than good sense.

Or a county sized upturned ceramic bowl that would cause the oxygen to be used up while containing the fire! :P

I've heard a former firefighter describe them as the worst, most dangerous union in existance (particularily to people who don't join). I guess he wasn't lying.

It works just fine for large fires. The fire will keep burning at a greatly reduce level however, unlike an oil well, but with all the trees stripped of branches and likely snapped like twigs it can't get nearly as big. That buys time for other methods to contain the fire which will then simply burn out.

Damn right, the forest fire's refused to follow their state directives and quotas and thus represented a dangerous lack of control.

not to mention if you detonate the FEA in the BURN like is suggested, the blow back will send it over the least consumable fuel source, that area which it's already consumed all of the heavy fuel, and now only has the charcole and light fuel to support it, meaning you will have time to create a decent fire break.
