Like spanky said, it's really gory.like the other X rated films of the early 1970s it was for Violence (check out The Wild Bunch or Last Tango in Paris if you want to see a well crafted non-porn X-rated film.

Worse are those clueless goombas who just don't get the plot. And feel compelled to ask someone in a voice loud enough to drown out the speakers. WTF happened to watching the damn film and using the brain for more than cooling blood?

Grrrr... Most kids have better etiquette than their parents at films in my experience.

or basically it's a porno that was essentually filming what was going on back stage as Dylan toured with the Velvet Underground.
