I would have to say Office Space, what with it being mind-numbingly stupid.

Scary Movie 3 and TPM.

I thought Citizen Kane was boring too.

Yeah the Blair Witch was bad. It was only (remotely) scary at the very end.

And Godfather 2. Everyone says it's better than GF1 but it's no where near as good and i didn't like it half as much as GF1

I think the reason that most people don't like some of the movie classics like 2001 and Citizen Kane is because the conventions they defined have been copied so many times that they have lost all their value. In their time they were brilliant movies but they don't have a lot of their WOW value anymore.

Anyways, I'd have to say The Matrix and Crouching Tiger were the most overrated movies ever. The Matrix had cool special effects, but its story was a lot of philosophical babble combined with a great advertsing campaign. Crouching Tiger had great production values but a sub par story and lousy characters.

You have to watch it twice for it to be really funny, I don't know why but it is mind numbing the first time and hilarious the second time around

The Rocky Horror Picture Show. What is this movie's appeal?

What makes the Blair Witch even worse was that in the recent top 100 scariest moments (TV and film) it was voted into number 5
Above such classics as Ring, The Thing, Hellraiser, All the nightmare on ELmstreets, Halloween and all the Friday the 13th !!!!

I'd say Titanic. It wasn't a bad movie in my opinion, but there was just so much hype. I've seen better movies which used a fraction of it's budget, as well.

Moulin Rouge was overrated as well. It's people in the 1890's singing music from the 70's, with some plot I didn't understand. Where's the appeal?

Gladiator.

I kept waiting for it to grab me my the balls, and it never happened. Good, but very far from the end-all, be-all movie people make it out to be.

Exactly. It was good but pretty iffy in the "best picture" department but that seems to be how they pick them anymore.

I also had a problem with the "Unleash Hell" line. :wtf: Not only did it seem contrived I also had a problem with a Roman using it considering the time frame.

Every Stanley Kubrik movie, with the exception of Dr. Strangelove, which was saved by its cast.

Pretty much any highly-rated movie more than two and a half hours long. Except for Seven Samurai, which still would have been better if they'd trimmed a bit from the early recruiting scenes and the final battle.

The first Highlander movie. I haven't seen the sequels but I can't imagine how they could possibly be worse than the original. The TV show was alright, though.

A few films I found to be highly overrated (ie, I hated them):

Natural Born Killers
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Magnolia (what a boring piece of shit that was!)

Shouldn't this thread be limited to films which were well-received by the critics? Pure shit like Waterworld shouldn't count, as the critics were almost falling over themselves in their haste to attack it.

Something like Citizen Kane would be more suitable, or the Matrix. Or Titanic, which won a shitload of awards.

American Beauty. Kevin Spacey is a fantastic actor but the whole movie left me kinda bummed. On the lighter note we did get to see Mena Suvari and Thora Birch showing tit, but or such a suposedly deep movie it wasn't.

Kill Bill. After 30 minutes I was about to Kill Tarantino and leave the cinema.

Gladiators. It was...nice, but it certainly wasn't Oscar-quality.

The Phantom Menace. Put "disapointment" to a whole new level.

I don't think that the Matrix: Reloaded was over-rated per say, it was just overhyped. Most people I talk to are not particularly fond of the movie.

For my personal pick of the most over-rated movie I go with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, I hear everyone raving about the movie and I thought it was boring and silly. The HULK is running a close second these days as it seems alot of people like it considering it sucks.
