at the theater last night before the Matrix, there was a RIAA/MPAA 'Public service announcement'. the spokesperson was a grizzly looking blue collar guy... a set designer, prop maker, whatever. His message was, in a nutshell "Please don't be a pirate, you only hurt the working man!". It was so cheezy and contrived sappy nonsense.
Now, for a bit of background, the audience consisted of a few hundred people who recieved free passes from one of the local alt/rock radio stations. The response was fucking hillarious!!! Shit flew everywhere, dozens of loud obsceneties were hurled, the most common theme being: "then stop making crap you greedy motherfuckers". this went on for a few minutes. i laughed my ass off.

I heard of this months ago. Frankly, compared to the RIAA's attitude, this is downright nice and civilized. Sure, you can flame them for being 'sappy', but would you rather have this lawsuit stupidity?

Yeah, I saw that when I went to see Matrix 2 when it came out in theaters. It pretty much met with the same reaction. :p Still, its a hell of alot better to deal with that than to get sued by them for no good reason at all.

Oh it's very nice and civilized. Only problem is, it is also unmittigated bullshit. The fact that the set designer is lucky to find work for 10 months out of the year is because Hollywood is run by a bunch of greedy motherfuckers who can be as medieval as they want with their hiring policies because movies are such a cultural icon.SirNitram wrote:I heard of this months ago. they the balls to say that downloading doesn't hurt the big executives and actors, and hurts the lowly workers the most. that is a load of horseshit. they get paid regardless and the studio loses its shirt if a movie flops. The Kernel wrote:Oh it's very nice and civilized.
