DOSBOX - Play your old DOS games on Windows XP and 2K
Moderator: Thanas
For some games that may not work in DOSBox, try VDMS It is for all NT based boxes and emulates DOS sound. After installing it, you then rightclick on the EXE and select 'run with VDMS.' You can configure full settings for each programme, or just run with default settings. I use it to play OMF which has been released to public domain.

Fixed bugs with files being opened multiple times, still not perfect but better.
Fixed a load of small other bugs that i've forgotten with these long delays between releases.
Even though some high-end 486 and Pentium games work now, the current cpu emulation speed probably won't let you run them at decent speeds. So don't bother to post about speed and be sure to read the README file to see how to tweak for optimal speed.

Huh? Descent works fine with it. Its just slower than shit.Yuri Prime wrote:Dammit, no luck with Descent...
Theres always D1x and D2x.
btw, if you haven't already registered, you can post Descent questions at the Descent BB. I post under the handle "MD-2389" on that board.
EDIT: Since the admin of the DBB forgot to update the DNS, you'll have to append your hosts file for now. However, this should fix itself in the next couple days when your ISPs get the latest DNS info.

Just paste that line at the bottom of your hosts file.

The VDMS 2.1.0 beta has been out since August, but isn't linked on the main VDMS site. It appears to have improved MSCDEX and VESA support (from updates 1 and 2 for 2.0.4, the second of which isn't linked on the main page, either), and has an improved shell interface (the VDMS Launcher, previously a separate application). This seems to work pretty well for most DOS games requiring Sound Blaster support, and I just got Star Trek: 25th Anniversary running on it with full voices (which were kind of spotty in 2.0.4).
