I didn't say the MPAA can force Europe to adopt, but that the MPAA can apply pressure.phongn wrote: And since when did Europe listen to the FCC? Lets consider that Europe didn't adopt NTSC either - choosing PAL and SECAM instead. There's nothing forcing them to adopt ATSC as well or any broadcast flags.
Now dream with me: uniform standards. Imagine buying a DVD at JFK airport to watch back home in England. This is one expat who wouldn't mind Europe caving.

Examples of American monopolies trying to force the EU's hand. Try to keep up.BoredShirtless wrote:The broadcast flag and violating EU's Competition Laws is related how exactly?SirNitram wrote: And we all saw how well pressure from Microsoft did against the EU.

Unfortunately, Europe looks like they'll be using DVB-T (a varient of which is used on the US for DSS) for digital content. The US will be using ATSC, of course, and Japan uses ISDB.
