Captain Bane grimiced. "Very well, Mr. Andrews. It looks like you win this fight. We'll leave. Give my a ship a moment to warm up our drives, your grid decceleration trick seemed to have stunned the mainframe. " As she finished this, Bane appeared to stumble a bit and coughed, 'squawking' the mic. "Sorry about that. Bane out. " And with that, the transmission ceased.
"Captain! If we don't get that Galleon, there's no telling if the Cat will pay us, rescue or not. "
"That's why we're going to unleash a few tricks up our sleeves. Release the payment hold on our friends' accounts, use the reserve fund if you have to. We'll get paid, trust us." Bane flipped up her secure commo.
"Marines, you ready for --"
"--plan Gamma-Six? Yep. We've got the cat, we managed to persuade the pirates to let her fetch her 'kitty litter.' She claims the Atlanteans kinda screwed her up a bit and the pirates don't want her poopin' all over their nice ship." He gave a big shit-eatin' grin. "They pretty well stripped the Galleon. They didn't cut off her CGT or rip out the plasma gun, but those microturret things are gone, along with her turbolasers. Her jump generator's still intact, thank God, but we can't open a point - not enough power. Sublights are warm, though. One of my men managed to disable their internal sensors. "
"Good for him, I'll pay him a bonus --"
"He's dead. Suicide. Dropped a class A4 thermal detonator inside with him when he was surrounded."
"Pity. You ready?"
"Ready. "
"ARCHON, what's taking you so long? Unless you want to join us? We know your drives should be ready now. So SCAT, you idiots!"
"Very well. Comm ... open up jump point and prepare to fold. And good night....mongrel. "
"What? You stupid ---- holy SHIT! Archon! You're fucking DEAD!"
Inside Secure Cargo 3, a jump point opened straight inside the ship and the Tiger's Claws ion drives roared to maximum military power. A good fourty decks of the Unjust Desserts were instantly sheared in two as the Star Galleon rocketed into hyperspace. However, so well-built was the frigate - and so large its bulk - that it could absorb even that huge amount of internal damage, though it'd need some serious repairs before it would
The Lurker (Crazy's ship), Anthony Daniels (Marine Freighter), Hellfire IV (Valkyrie) and Hard Luck (Gunship) jumped on their pre-programmed minijump sending them clear out the sector, while Archon folded out to the first of their evasion points. A single message buoy amongst some boxes transmitted the same thing over and over: "Nothing personal, Andrews, just business. And yeah, I kept my word: here's a few crates of rifles and grenades. Unlike some people, I am nothing but honest."
Nitram: If you think that's powergaming my escape or something, feel free to nuke that post or yell at me.

OOC: Nah, that's fine. But don't think you'll lose the ire of Andrews that easy; you took somethign that could have made his life very easy.
Andrews leaned back in his seat, quiet for several moments as the vessels were pulled into the tender's giant belly, the Unjust herself only barely spaceworthy. He listened, halfheartedly, to the chief mechanics assessment. "She'll be laid up for a good month at the big yards; hell, I won't even try and guess if we could do it. It could be done, maybe. If you don't mind losing a General Bay to her bulk, a second to the machining equipment to do the work, and three more to the raw materials. Maybe a year." Andrews simply waved the man away, and notified navigation to prepare for departure.
Two females were brought before him; the CO and XO of the Unjust Desserts. The human woman was the Captain, the Twi'lek her second in command. Both approached quietly, fidgetting with the metal bands around their wrists.
"Ladies." He began. "You are costing me alot of money. The frigate will be laid up for over a month, they tell me, and you failed to capture the Ethercannon, or the Cat. Tell me, at least, you managed to get a full, deep-penetration sensor scan of the hypermatter core." His finger was caressing a button on a small remote.
"Master, I didn't think we'd need it, you were minutes away, I though-.." The Captain's voice was cut off by a scream of pain, as electrical energy coursed through her from the bracelets.
"Yes, Beatrix, I am sure. And now you have no powercore, and your ship is all broken." Murmured Andrew as he released the button. The human woman was on the deck now, quivering from the pain. "I'm not happy about that. My own daughter, the spoiled little brat she is, got to mock me. So, in punishment, you are demoted." He mused to himself for a moment. "I know the security division onboard this vessel need an... Assistant."
"No! No, please, Master, I would do anything, anything, but not tha-.." Again she was cut off by a surge of pain from her bracelets. Two guards seized the woman, carrying her away as she continued to twitch and convulse.
"Aar'ryn. You will command the Unjust when she is again operational. In the meantime, did you remember to place the tracer on the Galleon?" Andrews was caressing the button again, almost eagerly.
"Of course, my lord." The alien bowed respectfully. "Though her fold drive outpaces even this vessel, we will be able to track the Galleon. Or at least, the bit that matters. Her hypermatter core is now broadcasting it's location through the Grid."
"We're in no rush. We need some repairs effected on our ships first. Let the Archon think it's safe. We are being sent to investigate other mysterious happenings."

"Alright, Cat. We sprung you out, got you your ship back, minus some parts, and delivered our cargo as contracted. Now, about our money."
"Stupid mammal! I barely have enough to repair my ship, and you want payment for goods I can hardly use?"
"Hey, KITTY. We just busted our asses and lost good men getting you out of prison. You want to head to the Patriarchy? Yeah, we know they know about you, we also know what they'd do to you. See what makes you tick. See all these ships? Except for Ragle's Maurader and maybe the Valk. I know they good scans of them. Enough to track us. We've spent blood, money and time on them - and for the account of a single Cat we're gonna have to sell them. So we want our cash."
"Fine. Money-loving plant-eaters, you'll get your payment, in full for the half-cargo you're selling me. Honor demands at least that much, I signed the contract. But that's all you people think about: money. Not honor. The credit transfer is executing as I speak." The Kzinti female was not happy, but honor was honor. None of the Kzin would dare besmirch their honor, even ones uplifted by Atlantis.
"Then a pleasure doing business with you. Your jump generator's back online, you can make your way to civilization on your own. The rest of us are leaving."
The six ships separated and left in their own individual ways; a week later the five remaining found themselves back in Lucky Trader. They were in for a big suprise there; none other than the trading vessel Errant Venture, captained by the grandson of Booster Terrick. The immense bulk of the original-run(!) Star Destroyer filled up a good section of this hanger. Her axial superlaser was clearly visible; the numerous weapons emplacements gave a menacing look. Oh, yeah, the crimson red paint looked brand-new.
"Ragle, I'm sorry for lying to you." The mercenary looked somewhat confused. "Lying?" Bane shook her head. "1. I paid you before mission was accomplished. A minor thing, but I wasn't entirely truthful at the end. 2. I thought I would have extra work. I don't. So you're free, of course." She smiled at that. "It looks like you chose well your upgrades and kit. Maybe we'll run into each other sometime. So c-ya!"
As Ragle walked off, the other four captains started talking to each other about their losses and damages. Aino wasn't too happy: "I lost half my alluvial dampers. Six ion guns out of comission, half the hull vents to vacuum." Neither was Bohrmann. "My engines are shot to hell, though the rest of the ship's fine. I'm slower than a stock freighter, if you can believe it! And I lost a good 67% of my men. Good men." Andrews, on the other hand, seemed almost chipper. "I guess I'm lucky then? Some scratched thermocoat? A chipped engine? "
The others looked in disbelief. "Kid, you've got your father's luck. Your mother's, too. Both, combined, even!" Aino was virtually babbling, though Andrews seemed rather irate at the comparison. "My dad is a no-life pirate! And luck?? Look at what we did! Look at him!"
"Kid. Your dad, yeah, he lost Conquistador, but that was Alliance politics. A statement was to be made against the Trader for its policies, your dad volunteered. He held out longer than anyone rightly should have and then got most of his crew off and himself before she blew. And now, look! He's got two frigates, a tender and a cruiser - by himself! That's luck and skill - and you've got your father's luck'n'skill inya. Your mum's charisma, too" Andrews blushed crimson at that, though by the looks some boys were giving her, it was all too apparent what Captain Aino really ment by "charisma."
"Oh...and since we're all here. I have another proposal. I waited until Ragle was gone since he doesn't do long-term contracts." Everyone turned to Elissa Bane in interest. "Alright. We can't use our ships anymore, except maybe for Andrews. They didn't get a good look at you?" The girl shook her head. "Nope. Not a chance, not with my jammers." Bane smiled. "Good. Alright, as I said, we can't keep the heavies anymore. My carrier is conspicuous, that freighter is obvious and the gunship too recognizable. Only the Valk looks normal - even if its performance is not."
"So here's an idea. We sell the three bigguns. And then we buy -- that." She pointed a rather ungainly starship a few kilometers away. "An Assault Frigate?" Captain Aino asked. "Not quite," responded Bane.
The four walked into a railcar and watched as the ship got closer. "An Assault Dreadnought. The run was very limited, but essentially it merged the best parts of the original Dreadnought Patrol Cruiser and the Rebellions's Assault Frigate. We get the original large hanger space, the extra firepower, very small crew requirements - she's been refitted with RSE automation systems - and greater maneuverability.
"I ran some preliminary estimates - if we combine forces, join up that is, we can sell our old ships to some fool even however damaged they are and then pool the cash we all have -- and buy the ship. We can get some upgrades - the Errant Venture's in town, you know they always have wonderous things - and we can modify the docking bay to hold the Hellfire IV and all the shuttles."
Everybody else nodded their heads. It sounded like a good plan and that one ship was looking to be a lot better than their old ones. A 700 meter long ship versus their old, worn-out vessels? Even this old ship would be better than that.
"Good. I've already placed a deposit on it, I knew you guys would join in. I know you have to convince your crewers, but they should go for it."
Bane smiled. "Alright. I figure this might be how it goes. I'll command the ship. Ami can command the weapons, Neils the boarding shuttles and marines, Kate's got her Valk and if we can score a deal on fighters she can command them too."
A week later, three ships less and one ship more, the Assault Dreadnought Curious Cat exited the Lucky Trader, lept into hyperspace and went to make their fortune.
Notes: I know that the pirates didn't get a good scan, but that's not relevant. Our band of misfits think that the Alliance sees them and will be going for blood, so they're abandoning their ships. But they won't lay too low, they need money.
Nitram, I know that Captain Andrews is still pissed and will be for some time. They know that, too. Though I doubt a medium ethercannon would have sold for quite that much, even a pristine one. Same goes for the bounty on the kitty.
Crayz, I figured you'd leave after the mission was complete. You got paid good.

The shipping container opened. Velzarr Tarn (now Ols Bergstrom) recognized the face that peered inside as his contact, the trader. The two skaven stepped out of the crate, taking their equipment with them. "Edwin will be happy to see you two. He says he's found just the right place," said the trader.
"That's why we came," replied the missionary, "Now let's go and spread the good word."

I prepared Explosive Runes today.
I should note that RMS Curious Cat is mostly a stock Assault Dreadnought. The gang used up most of their non-reserve capital (some of their earnings went in to the reserve, mind you) and sold the ethercannon to get it. The SPHA-T guns are gone, too. The ADN replaces the AFF's 15 laser cannon with the DN's original 15 turbolasers; firepower is the same but range is greater.
Modifications comprise an expanded hanger bay to hold the Hellfire IV, 20 MiniStormfire CIWS railguns, 2 EMP torpedo tubes and 2 Hellhound missile tubes (smaller versions of the ones the pirates and the gunship used; can be used against fighters as well as ships).
They want to strip out a few turbolaser batteries and install some ion beam arrays. They especially want newer sensors, since the current ones are much less capable than the super-array on the Archon. But that takes money...

Tiger's Claw departed through the blue realm of hyperspace to her destination. Her captain scowled. She had her ship and most of her crew, yes, but she only had half the weapons she was supposed to get. And nearly got caught by the Patriarchy. Oh, and her ship also was missing 9/10s of its weaponry. Only her plasma cannon was online, and that was far too unwieldy in combat. If they got jumped, they were done for.
But not this time. They reached their transfer point 450 light years from Yarmuk - that place still gave her shivers even all these years after the titanic battles there - and offloaded her cargo. Rifles and grenades for carefully emplaced movements around the Galaxy. Her Queen may be missing, maybe even dead, but she swore an oath all those years ago. It was not something to be broken, and she had her honor.
The Kzinti smiled a very toothy grin at that thought. The two mortal enemies were broken once again. One reduced to a tithe of its former glory, the others sulking the shadows once again. How little things change. We've been here before.
HMAS Tiger's Claw's smartpaint flashed briefly. The sigil of her queen flickered; the other freighter did the same in a sort of salute. Then the sigil faded; the ships simply became Tiger's Claw and Hopeful once again.

Captain Bane was somewhat surprised when Ragle turned up again a few days after she'd thought he left.
"What brings you back here?" she inquired, her curiousity perked.
"I heard you were in the market for some fighters," he replied. "I'm unloading those two H-wings. Interested?"
Elissa looked somewhat surprised. "What are you asking?"
"Hundred twenty-five kilocreds per fighter. Though I'm open to negociation on the price."

"Sold."PROMETHEUS wrote:"Hundred twenty-five kilocreds per fighter. Though I'm open to negociation on the price."
Ragle blinked. Did he go too low?
"No, Ragle, you didn't offer too low a price." Bane was chuckling at the bewildered look in Ragle's face. "Just about right, even. Look over there - see that Assault Dreadnought? The ones who stayed onboard decided to pool our resources. You can see the kid's Valk being loaded into the hanger right now. Lets go over the paperwork, I'll buy the two H-Wings, I saw what they can do. 125K's a good price. We need some fighters anyways.
"Oh, yeah, know of anyplace we can get some more? Does the SCEF still sell some oldies? We could use a few more."

Ragle considered the question. "The SCEF merged with the United Terran Republic, so I don't think you can purchase anything from them anymore. But I hear that Quaynar Industries, over in the CorpSec, is unloading some of their old stock. I'm heading over there after this, maybe I can pick up another H-wing II or whatever followed it. I used to have an H-wing II bomber, but managed to lose it when I was on a mission."phongn wrote:"Oh, yeah, know of anyplace we can get some more? Does the SCEF still sell some oldies? Elissa nodded. "I know how that goes. Thanks for the information, though. We'll be sure to look into it."

{System XG-632-(DW), Fourth Planet}
The survey teams had done their work quickly and efficiently. At last the mysterious progenitors of the planter had been revealed, the Atlanteans. But more importantly much of the infastructure and industry had survived, just waiting for new owners. Three destroyers had already been sent back, packed with examples of various peices of military hardware. Of particular interest were their missles, sure to be an important find.
Already there was talk in the fleet of formally colonizing the planet and making it the thirty second throne world of the Empire. Time would tell on that but the haul was already valuable beyond price.

In other news, Hirsch Defense Systems has filed a lawsuit against Gunsmith Limited for false advertising. The ad in question, which aired recently, claimed that Hirsch weapons are "shoddy rebuilds of centuries-old technology".
Hirsch Defense Systems lawyers pointed out, upon filing the case, that Kuat Drive Yards' patents on turbolaser technology expired approximately 2,000 years ago, and that their own turbolaser systems are by no means old designs.

For Serenity's sake! Take us off your god-forsaken mailing list! Nobody here
wants your damned products and you've spammed us dozens of times in the
last twelve hours! Plus, all of your weapons are far too expensive to the guys
you're selling it too!
So, in conclusion: take us off your mailing list! And don't bug this domain

Hand delivered message from the PRC embassy on Passchendale, to the Great Leader:
We have noticed that the Aquarian Union has foolishly decided to overextend itself. We wish to inquire if the HAB would like to help demonstrate the consquences of such an endevour.
---
GNN Headline News:
Top headlines today are the recent annexation of territory by three different major star nations. In order of size of territory annexation, they are:
Aquarian Union, which has decalred soverign power over a swath of the galaxy nearly 30 million cubic light years in size
The Three Suns, which has much more modest claims, and has devoted a significant amount of its armed forces to their expansion
and the PRC, which expanded it's borders by an average of 50 light years in every direction.

From: Aquarian Union Department of Defense
To Hirsch Defense systems and Gunsmith Limited
Rgarding: Contract
It is in the best interests of the Aquarian Union to upgrade our military technology.
We require Hypershielding with which to retrofit our battlefleets. And to ships currently in production, as well as to upgrade our planetary shield technology.
As such we will be requiring 1100 Units((enough to outfit 1100 ships)) to be delivered as quickly as possible. We have of course submitted this request to other weapons manfacturers, and you will be competing for this contract.
The Aquarian Union Department of Defense thanks you for your expedient reply.

A Moff looked over the PRC message. The Great Leader is going to want more information before making a decision when I present this. He typed out a reply and had it quickly sent back.
To: PRC Ambassador
It is impossible to consider such an action without first knowing what the PRC seeks to gain in its proposed offensive space campaign.

In other news, the goverment of the PRC has inititated legal action against Gunsmith Unlimited, and Aegean Hypergate, contending that they have violated anti-spam laws, and for theft of ansible time. If the government wins, they will likely attempt to initiate extradition proceedings for the top officials of those companies.

We seek to show the galaxy the folly of overexpansion, while at the same time, weaken a competiting state. Another thing we wish to persue is closer relations between our two nations. We already have another ally willing to help in this action.

"sir... I have been going over our patrol routes of that annexed territory... not oly do we not have enough ships to patrol it all, but we do not heed to keep all that territory annexed in order to keep those systems under control... I think it would be prudent to withdraw our claims to over half of that territory... And send more ships to patrol it."

Re: expansion.
Due to military and logisical concern, we are withdrawing territorial claims from our recent annexation. Save for the Malfoi, Dragonis, Velps, Atinias, and Grell systems, the space between them and a collum of space leading back to our home systems.
This leaves us with an expanse of territory roughly 25x100X10 light years in size.

"Don't put too much on his plate before breakfast, he gets cranky," Darrel Fellows told his intern, "and when he gets cranky... well, he's a well adjusted cat and it pays to work for him. But he expects the best."
The intern nodded, "I understand, Mister Fellows."
"Of course."
Fellows was the personal secretary to the effective prime minister of the Patriarchy, the Patriarch's own distant cousin Chrir-Riit. The Patriarch was not stupid even if he was not a genius, but he had far too much to worry about and had to farm at least some of it out. Chrir-Riit was a genius, albeit a wild one, and he was the mechanism of rule.
Right then, Chrir-Riit was informing the military that they would have to look into the possibility of expansion along the Norma Spiral arm into ex-Boyd space as a buffer against similar activities by foreign governments. He was also looking at reports of a missed drop by some Yakuza who dealt with the Black Alliance, concerning another Atlantean Kzinrret. This was a dangerous thing, the sentient cat-bitches were every bit as tough and mean as males, plus they didn't have the pulsating sex-sex-sex sequence of thought slamming into their brains and so had the leisure to think. This was one of the reasons that Chrir-Riit was a genius: he could get "pussy" any time he wanted, day or night. Privilige of rank; he had sired about a hundred little Heroes and they would start sniffing for his blood in a few years.
But Fellows didn't know or care about all this. He just knew that he needed to get the reports on his boss's desk within the next ten minutes or their would be hell to pay.
That, and some raw meat.

Subj: I heard you were looking for someone in my line of work.
Agent: That's true enough. I've heard a lot about you, captain. Your organization has a well deserved reputation.
Subj: I just do my job, man. What sort of op are we looking at?
Agent: Your usual. I need two shipments made per week, for the next month- at least for now.
Subj: What'm I moving? I won't pull an op unless I know exactly what's in my ships.
Agent: Small arms, at first- Sunny flashguns, Hirsch blaster rifles, and explosives. Later on, I may need larger objects, including space-mines, star fighters, and light armored vehicles.
Subj: Right up my alley, as long as there's no biologicals or nano, I'm happy.
Agent: As long as you get the job done, we will start your organization out on 5 million a month.
Subj: Something of this scale has operating costs, friend...
Agent: Seven million.
Subj: This will include dealing with local navy, right? 7 million...
Agent: Is as high as I am willing to go. There are a thousand other scumbags in the Alliance who will give me what I need.
Subj: All right, man, all right. It's a pleasure doing business with you. I just gotta ask- why are you folks from the Forzi cartel so interested in this place?
Agent: A fellow as smart as you should know better than to ask those kinds of questions.

"New order from central captain. They want to revert to ahead one quarter until otherwise instructed." "Right, helm ahead one quarter, and ask central why the hell they want us to take ten times as long to deliver a sail set to the lizard men."
Chambers of The Great Leader
The Great Leader watched as an aid strode towards him. Strange that they entered without first calling him, that was a good way to die. He lifted his main communicator, then tapped it against the throne. It came back to life. Stupid fucking battery, must not be too important if she didn't use one of the other channels. Well maybe it is, he thought as he probed her mind.
"What is it?" he asked unnecessarily. 'Sir the PRC has requested that the forces of the HAB join them and another party in an assault on the Aquarian Union." "Timeframe, forces?" "No precise details." "Tell them where willing to commit a fleet and two planetary assault groups for invasions, on condition they come up with a plan and inform me of this third party." "Yes sir, a message will be delivered within the half hour."
