This may surprise and shock you, but no one's wishing for a lack of recovery. Some people in this universe are not like you, and wish large scale trouble for political 'points'. I am one of those who prefers prosperity, and doesn't give a damn what idiot is in a big chair to do it. Jeez.
(Much like my dislike of the 'in your face!' dance the people in this thread are doing; heaven forbid we assume there's going to be a nice upswing of jobs when there's evidence, and not a moment before, eh?)

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
What a coincidence, I've been thinking about getting a CDL too~
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."
What vehicles do you have to have a CDL to drive? Or what line of work?

Anything it seems to be. CDL seems to be a Cover YOur Ass thing on
Employer's parts, but it's usually for heavy trucks.

Do you really want one of those jobs anyway? They're not exactly the most desirable jobs; you'd be better off borrowing money from the bank and opening a coin-op car wash.

True. Insanely expensvie is pretty close description.
On a personal note, I have 3 dollars left on my unemployement claim. It offically ended on October 27th, which means as far as the govt is concerned Im no longer part of the workforce. Now, I do get to file an extention, but I found a temp job so officially I cant do that either. The deadline for the extention is Dec 24. So, hopefully the temp assignment will not last till the 25th which would leave me in the lurch.
There are thousands of people who lost their UI benefits a long time ago or simply stopped looking. Since there is no real way to track them, the unemployment numbers are a guide, not a reflection of "true" unemployement.

If I may ask, what line of work are you looking for? How bad is the economy in the region you live in?

A job like yours pays 40K to start here, but you cant buy a home or rent a nice place on that. If you had a room mate though, you could get by.
Just how expensive is California!! 40k is plenty for a nice apartment and a decent car around here.(Dallas) With a roommate making equal pay you could live in the nicest apartments in town.

Depends where you live, but in the SF Bay Area new homes seldom sell for less than 600K. Im renting my 1 bdrm condo to someone for 800 bucks. That is about 200 under market rates. It is a nice condo, but next to RR tracks so not the best location. Really nice apts rent for the 1400-2000 range depending where they are.

Wow. You can get a nice house here for 250,000. My 1 bed is 565 all bills and it's in a nice area. For 800 you can get a nice loft or acceptible 2 bedroom. Does the pay differential make up for it?

No, wages are about 20-25% higher her, but the cost of housing is double to four times Dallas.
My 1 bedroom condo (900 sq ft, with den, 3rd floor upper corner unit, built in 1984 ) cost 250,000 in May of 2002. Not sure what it is worth now, it has not come down, but I dont know if it went up either. There has been no sales of comparable units in my complex, I found out my floor plan is pretty rare.
Anyway, its really expensive to live here. The prices are comparable to places like Boston and NYC.

The whole New York/ Southern New England area is absolutely insane as far as housing/rent prices. My wife and i have a moderate 1 bedroom in a fairly nice area on the outskirts of Providence. $800/Month with heat and hot water. If you take a left out of the complex parking lot the neighborhood goes downhill fast....it's a 2 minute drive to the ghetto! What's worse it the housing market. Under $175,000 buys you cape-style next to a crack house in South Providence or a 1930's pre-hurricane beach shack in Oakland Beach (the white ghetto).
