Creative 3D Blaster Savage4 crap?

Post by Tribun »

I had the above mentioned card in my PC fore a short time, and I had nothing but trouble with it. I think that card and/or drivers were bad, but want more opinions.

Here some of the trouble:
-With activater 3d mouse pointer, the pointer flickered or completly vanshid when over any kind of animation or when pulling down a window bar.
-In paintprograms (Corel Photopaint 6.0) when making masks, squares etc. the pulling of them was hacked-off and not smooth.
-WinUAE got flickering black lines over half the screen. (WinUAE is a Amiga emulator)
-A NES emulator got extremly slow (and lost the smooth effect to its graphic).
-In NWN, the pointer also flickers whin over the animation in main menu, which also is hacked-off and slow.

Is this the fault of card and/or driver? I cant't think that the mainboard causes this. I have a Tyan board from 2001 with BIOS of end 2001. I use Win98SE.
By the way, I now again use my PCI Riva TNT Erazor II withot problems, and funny, the drivers of the card, 2001, are more recent than the ones of the Savage4, 1999.

What do you think about this?

Almost certain to be drivers.

I always understood the Savage to be subpar, to say the least.

A GForce 2MX will outperform that thing and can be had on the cheap.

The chipset is by s3, therefore utter garbage.
