But in this thread, remember who made the suggestion first. First come (no pun intended...REALLY!), first serve.
But we'll conclude this later, DP. In the meantime, continue on with the Simpsons!

BTW- I'm speculating that Homer's current car is a GAZ Volga M24, a Russian car from the 1970s which bears a vague resemblance to the one Homer drives.
Proof:
- In the episode where Homer joins the Stonecutter Society, Abraham Simpson claims to be a member of the Communist Party... and in its native USSR, the Volga was reserved for important people like politicians and KGB operatives as it was a luxury car compared to, say, a Lada or Yugo. So it's possible that as a reward the Communist Party sent Abraham Simpson a car.
- In the episode where Frank Grimes Jr. tries to kill him, Homer says that his car was made somewhere in Eastern Europe from old Soviet tanks. I know that Homer specifically mentions Slovakia - while Czechoslovakia has housed carmakers Tatra and Skoda (both state-owned under the communist regime), Skoda never made cars the size of Homer's and Tatra cars had rear-mounted engines... thus excluding the possibility of Homer's car being a Tatra.
A search around on a site about Eastern European cars revealed that the Eastern car bearing the greatest resemblance to Homer's is aforementioned Volga M24.

Okay, I know this is very desperate speculation and not very plausible but it's worth the laughs.

The Simpson family does indeed have two cars (see the opening credits if you don't believe me), but it tends to dissappear and not show up unless needed.

Maybe it was disassembled in Russia, then sent to Guevara-backed revolutionaries in Guatemala who re-assembled it and somehow got it to USA. BTW - do you know any car manufacturers which have assembled cars in Guatemala?? I know that Chrysler has a factory in Mexico and Ford has one in Brazil.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi wrote:Wasn't there an episode (I think it's the one where Homer starts a farm), where Homer said it was made in Guatemala?
In any case, I'm losing faith in my theory about Homer's car being a Volga. Particularly since Homer's car is probably not intended to resemble any specific car - and Soviet-manufactured cars were intentionally generic-looking. (the Volga being no exception) Also, Homer's car have different bumpers and slightly different rear lights than a Volga M24.
However, this particular Volga (which evidently has been used for "banger racing") bears a great resemblance to Homer's car.

Possible, but if Homer's car is a GAZ Volga it's a 1970s model. In the 1980s, the Volga got facelifted so that it looked like this, although it technologically remained the same. (It was a very rare occassion that the Eastern Bloc countries restyled any of the cars they manufactured)zombie84 wrote:Homer's car is just supposed to be a generic 80's POS car.
Oldsmobiles from the 1980s don't have round headlights, although the rear end of Homer's car almost exactly resembles those of early-to-mid '80s Oldsmobile sedans.Looks to me like an Oldsmobile.
