Video Codec Trouble
Hi guys, I would like some help. I am having raather massive and annoying troubles with my video codecs. Specifically, Windows Media stuff only plays on WMP, random ASF vids won't play, and DivX AVIs simply don't at all. I think the Nimo Codec Pack and a 'proper' DivX codec install might solve the problem.
I'm sick of needing four different players on my comp and having to guess which one'll play something correctly. Before my recent Windows reinstall, I could literally play anything on Zoom Player. Well, the DivX installer's asking me to bounce this box, so see yall after the reboot and thanks in advance!
P.S. Guess my avatar...

I'd uninstall and re-install your codecs. Something must've happened somewhere along the line to corrupt them. Check for spyware while you're at it.
btw, you might want to check these out while you're at it...

Don't use Nimo. Again: don't use Nimo. In fact, avoid codec packs. Get ffdshow and install that. It'll play DivX/Xvid/3vix/MSMPEG4v3/etc.-encoded files. Then get the latest version of WMP. Since you have QT and Real Alternatives, you should be able to play anything via ZoomPlayer.

Just download the K-Lite Codec Pack, it enables Media Player to play anything.

Guess I'll uninstall everything including Nimo, WMP, DivX, and the Alternatives and redownload WMP and ffdshow. It's a bit of a 12ga-Shotgun-to-Kill-a-Fly Tactic, but I am sick of my wrecked codec stack...

I don't recognize that infidel pariah as anything worth recognizing as worthy of respect, much less worship. I think it's a simple DivX problem. Yes, I have ffdshow set to default on DivX AND I let WMP unrestricted access to the Internet (which it's probly abusing already: ActiveX.Microsoft.com? That can't be a nice place ) No dice.
Maybe I'll try uninstalling the 'official' DivX codec since I get the feeling WMP keeps wanting to go through it despite its being so obviously B0rked!

BTW on a whim I decided to try playing an AVI (Fuzzy Modem's weaponstest.avi movie) in Winamp 2.91 and it decided to play just fine. WTF!?
I retested it on other AVIs and most work just fine. Heh...
It Gets Weirder: Of all things, Irfanview works the BEST on AVIs. IRFANVIEW! Well except WMV videos and AVIs that are really MPEG4 v2 videos with an AVI wrapper. BIG MOJO KUDOS to Irfanview!!
Now I'm practically convinced it's an issue of WMP and Zoom Player still trying to use the broken DivX codex instead of ffdshow...
