Now I get to attend meetings and pay dues and do community service and write "Member of the National honors Society" on my college application forms. We're also doing a fundraiser. Anyone wanna buy a box of fruit?
As underwhelming as my own (lack of) enthusiasm is, my parents are real happy-they were in NHS when they were high school students, so they thought me getting is a big deal, especially my mother.

Bah! You should see my school's NHS, it half fills a cafeteria that holds about 500 people for lunch 3 times a day. And we have people that in no way would ever be considered to be NHS quality, like a preppy cheerleader that is an admitted slut, several football players that sleep through class and make better grades then I do just sleeping through half the class. I hate everyone in that room.

You are such a kiss-ass, you know that? Ha Ha kidding. Congrats. It's just one more thing to guarantee that your parents won't have to pay for your tuition. Hmm... maybe that's what they're so happy....

Definitely the second one.
Adding. For the first, yes there are dues but usually called "membership fee". I payed 40 dollars if included the 10 dollar membership fee and the 30 dollars worth of cookies I had to sell.
YES, I will have it on my resume!
What is your low standard anyway? It's 85 average here but IIRC some other places have differing guidelines. What's yours? heh.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Really, that was mostly just self-deprecating humor. The school I go to is actually pretty good, so a 90 or above average is the requirement.
I'm in that. I never did a damn thing. Went to an induction thing, and the next year stood at the door handing out programs. Never paid a dime, never put it on a resume or anything. Meh.
