Not entirely no reason. But who and where would be nice to know. I can't really follow what people have been writing. Essentially, since you smacked down the Aquarians, you made a lot of people seriously dislike and fear you.
I used th heavy piracy in the area as an excuse to move a large amount of my fleet and soldiers nearer to your territory, and did some behind-the scenes dealing, to funnel weapons and equipment to Aquarian freedom fighters.
Then, a coalition of empires interested in cleaning a dangerous, xenophobic power like yours from the galaxy struck.
You currently have the Stuart corporation attacking your home systems from the west, the Nysfitsar attacking from the north, the Krytos and the Aegis attacking from the south, along with some remnant Aquarian vessels, and of course, the Three Suns Commonwealth and a carrier group of Nysfitsar attacking your holdings in the Aquarian Union.
One of the planets in your home system is infected with Xenomorphs. They are uplifted, sentient creatures working for the Aquarians. I am pretty certain that your own military forces are potent enough to clear them out, though- bugs probably aren't much threat to trained, well-equipped and informed soldiers.
I'm afraid that I'm being, essentially, a war profiteer and working alongside the coalition. We intend on conquering the Azegarte Empire and cutting it up between alll the ionvading powers.

Scratch that last, carve up the Empire as you will though all ships and orbital infastructure would fight to the death or be destroyed in taking them. I'll just create a new power if I get the time to get back in the game.
I'm going to have to drop out since I really don't think I can give the game the time it deserves. Nitram, I'll leave the game in your hands.

Storm is temporarily leaving the STGOD until his real life settles down.
You can more or less move in and burn and stuff, but keep in mind there will be massive losses; the defenders will fight to the last man, and have technical parity with you all.

I held my tongue on the first little annexation spree, but I'm not going to let it pass without a comment this time.
Modern nations are too well defined and organized to allow such a smash-and-grab to be successful in any but the most limited sense. The Kzin are getting around this in their subjugation of the Norma Arm by main strength; each time a planet is taken the populace is forcibly deported and otherwise scattered to the winds. This can be done if you're a savage bastard grabbing isolated planets. A good historical example of this technique would be the post WWII siezure of East Prussia--a relatively small area got grafted onto the USSR and the populace was replaced by Russian settlers. But there's no getting around these problems with the Azegart.
A partition and annexation of the Azegart would be very unrealistic from a nation-state point of view. The citizenry is violently xenophobic and nationalistic, so you're simply not going to be able to draw any industrial or monetary benefit from your seizures. Whatever raw resources you might gain can be more easily gotten off of the many uninhabited worlds. In essence, whatever territory you might gain isn't going to do you much good, and will in fact force you to dilute your strength and spend huge sums of money rebuilding the infrastructure (which will certainly be smashed). Plus, the UTR, SKS, and Kzin, all of whom are bigger and stronger than you are already pissed off about the xenomorph thing and they probably won't abide gross territorial aggrandizement after this war.
What's a victorious government to do, then? A punitive treaty or insertion of a puppet government (or both) would be the most beneficial. Not only will you eliminate them as a threat, but you can also turn them into an economic satillite state and get your resources and cash, and the military patrol pricetag will be much reduced. Massive casualties during the assault, a permanently bloody occupation, and international anger will all be averted.
I like realism and accuracy in STGODs, and I would certainly recommend that you follow my suggestion above. That is how real nations resolve their wars in the modern era. End rant.
P.S.

Thanks a lot, Pablo. Your ideas make a lot of sense to me- I had been trying to think of ways to properly subdue such a populace, and had pretty much been thinking that a long, brutal war would cow the populace enough that they would question their own religeous beliefs, and then bring in Islamic and Progenitor Temple missionaries from the TSC to set about starting new religeons- essentially, pull a Cortez.
Puppet governments and other such niceties seem to be a much less... brutal idea.

hmm... Taking out their initial fleet defenses, then setting in a puppet regime would be... workable...
We dont really have much for missionaries, we are for the most part scientific pantheists... so... We can brng in scientists to teach them about... evolution... and how no species is inherently superior.

Perhaps it works that way for fishmeat creatures, but not for humans I think any effort to teach Azegarters about evolution will sort of come up short and hard against the "who gives a fuck" wall.Alyrium Denryle wrote:Oh, our scientists can talk about evolution wth the same zeal, and fervor as any religious person... Perhaps... but then again, that sense of awe when faced with the natural world is preent n all humans, even Azgarters. It is that sense of wonder that we will be using.

Well, we win... But we suffer losses f course, we dont know how much of his military is commited to defending his systems, but considring the fact that heis defending two fronts... It will not be much. 2 of his fleets, and we suffer losses accordingly.

Do we even need to post it? Or can we just assumed it happned, post casualty figures and get on with creating a puppet government.

Posting a synopsis of the battles, etc. would probably work. Just be fair about them.

I';d be OK with that, Nitram will have to say something, though.
Oh, and to keep from any dissonance among the coalition, just one of our poweers should be wholly responsible for setting up the puppet government. I say the Krytos- Alyrium's too nice, I'm too suspect, and, well, everyone else has their main empire too far away from the Azegart.
