They had no real choice. Moore's position constituted a direct attack upon the legitimacy of the Alabama judiciary. Essentially setting himself up as above the law and promoting contempt for the law and the courts, to have retained Moore even as an associate justice would have been tatamount to surrendering even the appearance of impartial administration and would have made Alabama's courts a national laughingstock. Institutional security alone demanded Moore's ouster; nevermind the fact that his actions were flatly illegal and his take upon constitutional theory was plainly bizarre.Stormbringer wrote:Wow, I am seriously impressed. I didn't think they'd really do it.

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

It's good to see Moore's neck swinging from a tree, but I'm worried that the fundies and fanatics will set him up as a sort of martyr to the cause, and since he's one of those martyrs that is, in fact, still actually alive, he could cause a bit of damage. Hopefully at worst he'll just embarrass Alabama some more; I doubt anybody will notice.

I was thinking the same thing. The Religous Right will probably be whining about being persecuted by the big bad secularists for months because of the situation.HemlockGrey wrote:It's good to see Moore's neck swinging from a tree, but I'm worried that the fundies and fanatics will set him up as a sort of martyr to the cause, and since he's one of those martyrs that is, in fact, still actually alive, he could cause a bit of damage.
