I responded to this:
with this:Virus-X wrote:I'm pretty sure he meant using the ship's energy as an opposing force. If you turn a merry-go-round with 100 joules of energy, clockwise, an application of 100 joules against it's rotation (moving counter-clockwise) would stop it. You're talking about subtracting, or depleting, it's energy and slowing it's clockwise rotation to nothing. I'm also pretty sure you knew what he meant.
The Dude aka RampagingDude on Fucking MSN wrote:Christ... is this what passes for analysis around here? Energy and force are not interchangeable - for starters, energy is a scalar, not a vector. If a turning merry-go-round has 100J of rotational KE, stopping it does not require 100J, it liberates 100J. This is basic conservation of energy/ work-energy principle stuff.
Stopping the rotation of any body requires no energy input, as it represents a net decrease in the system's KE. This is fundamental physics. So please, stop embarassing yourself and concede the point.
Some interesting tidbits from Virus-X on that board, in the Slave-1 vs Defiant thread:
If this ass-clown has the equivalent of an engineering degree, I'll eat my fucking hat.Virus-X wrote:I have a degree in applied sciences, too, and on the website that I'm working on, I clearly state that it does not make me any smarter than anyone else, or that it makes me some sort of authority over anyone else on either Star Trek or Star Wars. True, I may be more informed on such things as electronics (because I have my degree in Electronics Engineering Technologies), but, again, neither his mechanical engineering, nor my electronics engineering make us the 'fonts of knowledge'.
Mr "applied science degree" quotes an acceleration figure as a maximum velocity, with units of kilo-g's!!!I don't take home-made measurements on speed; only what's written by the 'experts' (authorized personnel), and according to what's written, Slave-1 is capable of reaching a maximum velocity of 2.5 kG (2,500 G) of acceleration and sustaining.
For the coup-de-grace, Troglodyte-X proves his intellectual superiority once and for all by making a threat to hunt down and beat anyone who doesn't show him the respect he figures he deserves.Wong often resorts to ignorant name-calling, warranted or not. Then, he will degenerate into complete hurt-feelinged idiocity when someone retaliates in kind. That's the main reason I won't debate him, because I don't take very well to people that try insulting me across thousands of kilometers and the Internet. A friend of mine (an Air Intelligence Agency officer) dealt with an idiot like that by going to work, tracking his IP address and other data, connecting his telephone number and home address to it, and paying the little jackass a visit. Since he's offered me the same data access, I'd do the same thing. Really, I'd rather not have to stoop to that level of violence and aggression, but if I'm not addressed with the same level of respect and courtesy that I give, I get very angry, very easily.

I"m slightly insulted by that in that I have the SAME Degree
How could he have gotten though physics with those math skills
Trufully I would expect more than that from a fellow electronics major/engineer

It is the combination of the old EE degree and computer design and development degrees.

Dumb Ass-X wrote: Clearly, the Star Trek: Deep Space 9 episode “The Die is Cast” established what Wong called the Death Star’s superlaser (erroneously): a benchmark. The superlasers did not establish a true benchmark for Imperial firepower, because they were not in any way, shape or form common weapons. The Imperial star destroyer turbolasers, on the other hand, were more indicative of the norm. Virtually no starships carried superlasers (the Eclipse and not-produced Sovereign class star destroyers), and the ones that did, did not have superlasers any near the power of the ones installed in the Death Stars. The Romulan disruptor weapons, plasma torpedoes and Cardassian phaser cannons were not in any way, shape or form un-common; they were standard installation weaponry, and the Romulan warbirds have been compared in firepower to the Galaxy-class starships of around 2364-2365. The arguments of Star Wars absurdists against the complete and obvious reality of what Star Trek firepower is capable of is the result of nothing more than just blind, fearful denial. It is the result of Star Wars absurdists and zealots that are doggedly dead-set against saying anything positive about Star Trek technology, and worshipping the mindlessness that has resulted in such phases as “Federation Cultists”, against which I verbally retaliate. For them, to admit that anything in Star Trek is more technologically advanced would be unto suicide, for them, the same people that live for telling people such stupid phrases as “concession accepted”, whether there was one, or not. Even if Star Trek were to show an episode where a UFP Starfleet starship were to destroy a planet with a single shot and verbally show how many watts or joules were involved, Star Wars absurdists would stupidly dismiss this as being “merely subspace effects”, or that the planet had a low density, or some other mindlessly stupid write-off. This is the same idiotic mentality that says that the turbolasers that were used to destroy the asteroids in Episode 5 were at low-power, in spite of the fact that there was absolutely no canon or official documentation to back that up. They are the same people that state that Alderaan had a planetary deflector shield, in spite of the fact that there is no canon or official documentation to back that up, either, and yet both nuggets of falsehood have become part of the Star Wars zealot lore, thanks to the few that they give their blind loyalty, parroting their arguments because they don’t know how to formulate their own. Even when you successfully refute ‘their’ argument with mathematical and physical equations till the cows come home and 6 ways to Sunday, they continue to mindlessly drone “you’re wrong”, in spite of the fact that they don’t have the faintest idea of what you just said. However, while it is true that some come up with original arguments, many do not.

Could be ITT TechThe Dude wrote:Whoops - I guess you already answered that by saying it was a revamped EE degree.
In that case, either:
a) he is lying
b) despite the similar title, his degree is not in engineering but some "engineering technologist" glorified-technician bullshit
c) his school is fucking pathetic
They just teach only the basic and give you only a technition's level certification

Funny that he refers to it as an "electronics engineering technologies" degree, because that sounds a lot more like a technician's diploma than an engineering degree. But by all means, if he's a real electrical engineer (gotta love people who can't even get the title right), by all means, let him E-mail me his IEEE membership number.(because I have my degree in Electronics Engineering Technologies), but, again, neither his mechanical engineering, nor my electronics engineering make us the 'fonts of knowledge'.
Open challenge to Virus-X. Grow a pair of balls and debate me. For someone who continuously insults me across the Internet, you have a lot of gall to use my lack of manners as an excuse to avoid me. Or would you prefer to continue sniping at me from afar like the gutless coward that you are?Wong often resorts to ignorant name-calling, warranted or not. Everybody who knows him anywhere, please forward him a copy of that challenge.

That is My Degree! I am Insulted by his stupidity since it makes us all look bad (I am a IEEE Member BTW). I just need to pass Integral Calculas and I can Get out of this stupid rat race they call college. I had to take the same Physics class they have at Weber fot the Mechanical Engineer guys and this fool must have slept through his Physics courses of was not required to take them. There are places that hand out EET Degrees that do not include Real Bas degrees as part of them. (ITT Tech comes to mind). I spent 2 semesters there and I left at the first opertunity, in the ads they promise students jobs but in their own collection of corporations and outside of that the degree means almost nothing.Darth Wong wrote:Funny that he refers to it as an "electronics engineering technologies" degree, because that sounds a lot more like a technician's diploma than an engineering degree. That's why the IEEE membership is important. There are lots of places that hand out impressive-sounding degrees.Isolder74 wrote:That is My Degree! I am Insulted by his stupidity since it makes us all look bad (I am a IEEE Member BTW).

I didn't pay my IEEE dues to have morons like this make us look bad. To some slappiing a bunch of curcuit boards togather is a Engineering job. Engineers design things not put them togather. Any person with a Technition Degree would automatiaccly be under the engineer of the same experience.

I doubt very much Virus will actually take the challenge, he is both a liar and a horrible coward. The possibilities are:
A) He casually refuses the challenge by referring how he doesnt "bother" debating Mike etcetera etcetera
B) He ignores the challenge completely
C) He runs away from the entire board and stays away long enough for things to calm down

Yes, you're right. I managed to integrate over spherical shells rather than cylindrical sections. I'll just go and sit in this stupid monkey confinement box to receive the pity. The Dude wrote:Cylinders are 0.5; spheres are 0.4. Not that it would matter, since the Sun is not a rigid body of uniform density anyway.
I think the density goes something like 1/r^2 away from the centre; much lower, yes. You're right that this would not apply precisely to the sun, but since its density will vary inversely with radius, the coefficient will be even lower than 0.4.
