name that game

Post by Jason von Evil »

Ok, I can't remember the name of the game, but it's an old one. In the game, you control a fort with a cannon (as did the computer or another player) and you have you to select the elevation of the cannon and the amount of power you want to put into each shot. The objective of the game is to destroy the enemy fort before they can destroy you.

This game is old though, we're talking 80s or early 90s.

Was it a coin-op game by Atari? I think I know which one are refering too.
Shoot, cant remember the name now. It was sort of a sequel to a game called Warlords from the late 70's early 80's.

Edit: After searching the web, was it called Rampart?

That one's similar, but you don't control elevation and power. You just build your castle and then fire all your cannons at the enemy one, then repair the damage you took within a set amount of time.

I think what you're looking for is Scorched Earth, but there's been a dozen variations on the same theme.

Bah. What you want is Rampart.

An all time classic.

Or Scorched Earth 3d. Which is just insane.

I think that could be it. The game in question is like Scorched Earth, but with forts instead of tanks and without the power ups and various weapons.

There's an old C64 game called "Artillary Duel". It was IMO the best incarnation of that game. The "william tell" song that they play in the sheepdog vs wolf while the mountains and trees and skies get drawn with birds chirping, to be cut off with a "dum dum DUM!" sound when the two forts appear is hilarious :)
