Just an idea.... flame me if you must.

The next time some nutcase comes in here saying the Empire can't hurt Starfleet ships b/c the "lasers" will not get past the nav deflecters... don't crush them like the fools they are in the next post, play with them..

Say something like this... (not saying the work "Turbo" anywhere")

"That maybe true, but the Nav deflecter only covers the forward arcs of the ship, as its main use is to move space dust etc out of the ships path. A laser targeted to the aft of a ship will get though and do damage."

Then if they say something like
"But then the normal shields will stop it"

thats when you let them have it with the "Turbo"laser and all that other stuff.

Let them sink into there ideas a little more, then crush them.

Delay means I can't crush as many of them in a given time span. When crushing quantity is preferable to quality...since you don't need to have fresh quality just have a cut and paste rebuttal ready.

You don't say the empire uses lasers. You just point out that if the Nav deflecter blocks lasers, then it would not stop laser hits to the aft of the ship. You don't say anything at all about the empire, turbolasers or any other weapon.

You just say that a laser to the aft of the ship will bypass the Nav shields.

Tell me where I have said that? I have not said that anywhere before. I know damn well that Turbolasers are not lasers. They are plasma weapons within an EM "bottle"

and yes, I do think that 2 Sovs could take on an ISD. Where did I say that I thought 2 Galaxies could?

Irrelevant anyway the Soveriegn isn't much stronger than the Galaxy class so neither can do anything.

Check the Top here last page up of the Minium figures thread, and ISD Demosrates REPEATBLY the ability to take more than one broad-side of its own weapons but I decided to run a calc based on the Require shield strength to take a broad side based on minium Figures(200 GTs only, MTLs on an ISD are the same sizes as MTLS on the Acclimators and the HTLs are even bigger, to be fair I only called them 250 Gigatons and ran a calc)
And I came up with 15.8 Teratons

15.8 Teratons for each of the ISDs four Shields sections which can be focused any which way one wants(1-1-1-1, 1-2-0-1, 4-0-0-0(15.8=1 section), whatever way one wants )

So thats a MINIUM figure of 15.8 Teratons eh? Ok Soverigns are armed with Q-Torps which calcs top OUT at under 200 MEGATONS, the avarge is 128 with the low end being 60 or so, So we use 128 Avarage VS the SW Minium to be vaugly fair

Anyway 4 torps a second from both or 8 torps from each second

So anyway 15.8 Teratons or 15,800,000 Megatons/128=123437.5 Missles which we round up to 8
So 123,438 Missles/8 sec=15429.75 seconds or 15430 seconds/60=257 Mintues/60=4.28 HOURS of Bombardment by Soverigns to take down ONE of the Four shield sections of an ISD by MINIUM figures....

And may I point out thats much larger than Twenty Soverigns complete Torp Payload?

and that depends on if I can find them at the Library. And that's if they are even in Canberra. Heck I have only seen 22 mins of Ep II. (damn 56k modem)

Okay, here's the relevent part. ICS says that the yield of Acclamator weapons is 200GT for their heavy quad lasers. ISD weapons are much bigger. Even using just the 200GT figure they would still be orders of magnitude better than even the most generous ST weapons figures. Sorry.
