Infinity time loop

Post by Sarevok »

Suppose you were stuck in one particular day like the movie "Groundhog day". Everytime you die or go to sleep you wake at 6 am again that day. You however remember what you did in the previous iterations of the infinity time loop. So what do you do ?

I would have a lot of fun. Since there are no consquences I would go on a rampage doing whatever I like. Everytime I wake up I would remember what happened the last time. That way I would know what is going to happen throughout the day in advanced. By using that knowledge the possibilities are endless.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

But it would become hell after a while. There IS only so much you can do in a day, after all.

That is true. But since this is the "Groundhog day" scenario there is a way to exit the time loop once you are frustated.

yes there is an eventual end to the loop, but u can never tell when that end will occur, so how do u know that if u act like its ur last day every day but then the day doesnt repeat, you end up screwed. well thats the logical answer, but i too would go nuts and i recon i would learn how to do some kool things aswell like bill murray did.

I presume that we don't age, and wounds don't carry over. In that respect, as long as it loops 20,000 some times, (the number of more days I hope to live), it would be pretty cool. Also, not haveing to work (just take that one day off and live off your credit card) would be cool.

However, I'm not certain if that would outway the downside. You've only got a few hours to do anything, so it's not like you could take a flight to the ocean and enjoy the beach (unless you already live close by), or go on a tour somewhere. (Wasteing half of each day on an airplane isn't my idea of a good time.) Things like the weather, and the one soup of the day at each resteraunt would also get pretty boring. New games or movies would never come out, and if your car, weather, computer, etc was bad on the day of the loop, sorry, sucks to be you.

A much better one would be a loop of at least a year. That gives you all the variety you want, plus it gives you like to win the lottery, buy a mansion, that sort of thing.

There is an interesting book entitled Replay that's on this theme. A guy is caught in an loop of several decades. However, with each loop the timespan gets shorter.

I remember reading the back of a novel called 'Time Trippers' where it was a person (then his girlfriend) doing that over the course of there entire lives (with perfect memory retention)

THAT would be beyond cool. One day, you turn 14 (or whatever age, or somewhere between 5 - 14, who knows the details), and you have knowledge of the future and know 'okay, last time, I managed to take over the world, but those damn assassins got me..."

You also could memorize lottery numbers for after you turn gambling age/arrive and rake cash every time and leave on hell of a fun infinity

What happens if you die while you're in the loop? Are you just ressurected?

Yeah, Bill Murray kept coming back.

Wouldn't you just mentally lose it after a while, and become a quivering mess?

Until the loop ends and you stay dead, anyway.

I'd get around to learning a bunch of different languages, just so I can string together multilingual curses.

do something i have been meaning to do for a long time, and keep trying until i get it right... after that i would find someway to end the loop as it is.

i couldn't go on for long, especially considering my days are long boring and tedious 90% of the time.
