Can't help but thinking about Event Horizon also. Not that an Imperial Stardestroyer on the loose in Trek-verse really need anything to increase it's scaryness factor.

Considering how easy it is to get highly sophisticated self-aware machines in the Empire I wonder how advanced the main computer of a SD might become. It would probably have blocks against becoming to independent but isolated from the chain of command without any recognized authority it wouldn't surprise me if the professional paranoids in the empire had programmed it to take charge itself to seek out and destroy any non-imperial regimes.

Mike, this story is vastly better than Conquest.

That would be the stupidest thing imaginable. You do NOT want to piss off other governments in an uncontrolled fashion.

The first thing that came to my mind was the virust thing that kill the crews in the lost fleet in the Thrawn trilogy, made the crew go crazy or something, but that's probably not it.

Anyway, great chapter, i hope we don't have to wait 6 months for the next one :P

Hmm...if there was something that was so drastic the entire crew died, why would he not make the ship self-destruct? ISDs do have self-destruct measures, right?

Unless it was a phenomenon that wasn't contained aboard the ship..

Remember space is big, really really fucking big.

The ship was locked down, I would guess the it couldnt actually get out.

Or possibly Devil in the Dark? Of course it's possible that the threat came onboard from the SW Galaxy and caused the problem that stranded the ISD in the ST universe.

There's a whole host of possibilities.

The first thing I thought of were the bugs in Starship Troopers, actually. The "they get in your head" phrase is virtually identicle.

I vaguely recollect a TNG episode with mind controlling earwig things or something. I thought it was them.

Yes, I know. My reference was to the general's line: "They get your head. They make you do things."

Come on, I watched it five years ago or so. It's blurred with all the other stupid brain-bug things over the years, like the Kahn-bug and the aforementioned Starship Troopers bug.

Bucking the trend, I humbly request to NOT appear in this fanfic. It's really, really good -- but I have to buck the trend, you know. It's a habit.

That's just because you have a sinking feeling that some of these characters are going to get killed off
