ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A woman was shot outside a store near Fredericksburg, Va., Friday afternoon, in an incident with similarities to the shootings in Montgomery County, Md.

Spotsylvania County police say the woman was loading packages into her car about 2:30 p.m. at a Michaels crafts store outside Spotsylvania Mall when she was shot in the back. There was no official word on her condition, but witnesses say she was breathing and speaking.

The shot apparently was fired from a distance. The first incident in the Maryland shooting spree was a shot fired through the window of a Michaels store.

Police are not saying there's a connection between Friday afternoon's incident and the Maryland shootings. They say it's too soon to draw any conclusions.

However, Montgomery County police chief Charles Moose says he will send his investigators to Virginia to see if there is a connection to the shootings in his county.

...........

They are saying that the woman was criticly injured but is expected to live.

They are also reporting that a man found dead last night in Maryland may be a sixth victim.

(Fredericksburg-AP) -- Police say the weapon that wounded a
woman outside a mall near Fredericksburg, Virginia, does NOT appear
to have been a high-powered rifle like the one involved in a series
of shootings in Montgomery County.

Spotsylvania County Police Captain Michael Timm says a woman was
shot in the lower back as she loaded packages into her car.
Timm says the bullet passed through the woman's body, and police
are looking for it.

No official word on the woman's condition.
The shooting occurred outside a Michaels crafts store at
Spotsylvania Mall. The first incident in the Montgomery shootings
was a shot fired through the window of a Michaels store.

Montgomery County police are sending investigators to the scene.

This is speculation on my part but, I think this is terrorism..

The NUTJOB theory has a hole in it because in the NUTJOB scenarios that I have heard about the person shoots themselves in the head at the end of it.

The Gangsta criminal theory is gone because those people shoot 20 times and hit the kid two streets over by richochet and hit their target in the big toe.

The serial killer?? Nah doesn't fit, serial killers don't use guns.

The Deer hunter theory?? I don't even know what to make of that crap

Most teenagers or disenfranchised go off at the place they percieve themselves to be wronged at. So that doesn't fit either.

The perp(s) are trained in some manner, by some means, and they don't fire often. The timelines of the shooting are such that they could be considered a person who was on foot, but that almost rules out a rifle. The "White Van"?? don't know??? So far no facts have been presented in the media at all. And the ideas presented by detectives don't focus on the facts at all.

The killings appear to be random, and that points toward Terrorist(s). As terrorist killings are random.

But in my mind I view terrorists as spray and pray types..

So the only thing that is comming across from the media is people with an axe to grind and a political agenda. Which really does nothing to solve the case or help people keep their eyes and ears open.. I think their presentation will actually hinder the development of their case against the perps.

On the other hand the LEO's have to be scared to death because they don't even have suspects. Chances are these people are not done yet.. Because there was one killing wednesday, and 4 more thursday, and possibly now a 6th in Virginia???

There that is my 2 cents worth.

That's some shit. I frequent our local Michael's Arts and craft store about every weekend. Last thing I need is some fucked up hill redneck coming in from boondocks Alabama playing around with thier damn sniper rifle. Hopefully that part is just a coincidence. I'd say give me a gun just in case, but I believe Wong has made the point about that. Even if those pussies got close enough for it to make a difference, they wouldn't be ballsy enough to get within a punch or kick distance. Now that's how you take someone down, bitch!

i don't think this is some fucked up wacko. They aren't right in the head, they'd go to far. And the professionalism of it's makes it hard to believe it's gangs or something like that.

Really, the only two possibilities in my mind are terrorism and a serial killer. I don't know which of those is more frightening.

Acutal it makes damn good sense from a Terriosim point of view

You have say twenty memebers with pre-picked out *Sniping spots

Each one has a high powered Rifle of the same type and calaiber(Prehaps even identical barrel markings, it can be done but its hard, something one has to pre-arrange with a compentent gunsmith)

Anyway each guy's job is to shot 1,2 people then the NEXT person's job is to at a preset time intiful go shot 1,2 people then go back under-cover

They propbably are told to get rid of the gun right after too

None of them knows the others or where or when they strike just that when a hit is done in a specfic state its thier turn next

Not particulary hard to find 20 people who want to shoot and American or two then go back undercover, as far as terriorsts jobs go invovling guns its realtivly cushy

And as the killings go on and on people demand justice, demand vengence and as long as no copy-cats shoot as the same time your suposed to, everything works out fine and it can be staggered over several months if one wished

Better to keep the weapon, but switch out the barrel and run a file down it to make matching impossibul. The old barrel can be dispoed off much more ready then a complete gun, even if you dissaembled it.

Plus the fact that you still have it would be an indication of innocen.

The dirty little police secret of serial killings and terrorism is that you can't catch serial killers unless they make a mistake, and you can't catch terrorists before they strike. There's NOTHING they can do. Repeat; NOTHING.

Serial killers usually aren't caught until they get caught up in their own egos and start taking risks, being too brazen, etc. Terrorists are impossible to spot before they go active; quite a few suicide bombers in Israel were people with completely clean rapsheets. That's why the IDF gets frustrated and starts punishing the Palestinian civilian populace for terrorist actions; they hope that it will act as deterrent (and yes, I know, the Israeli apologists will say that they've never done this; that they've always acted strictly in self-defense, but honestly, anyone stupid enough to believe that needs more oxygen to the brain).

They will NOT catch these clowns until they fuck up, or someone they know turns them in.

It might be organized terrorism but for one thing it doesn't look like al Qaida. Those guys go for high bodycount targets. Oneoffs aren't their style. It's probably a homegrown nutcase or two.

So you can whip out a handgun and take potshots at a van 80 yards away in a crowded urban environment after you hear the crack of gunfire?

Guns should be legal, but not if you can't demonstrate some level of mental competence and responsibility, otherwise I could see people trying just that.

No, I think the pair of Palestinian terrorist engaged in similar actions, shooting up cars with AK-47's, who where gunned down by an Israeli civilian with a handgun last year are proof enough of why Private gun ownership is a very good idea.

Were the Palestinians doing their usual thing of getting up close and personal in the name of Allah before shooting or did they stand off and snipe? The situation in MD/VA is obviously more along the lines of the latter case and not reallly comparable to disposing of a point-blank-range Allah martyr.

That's doable. A van is not as tiny a target as a human is at 100+ yards.

Put a few holes in it, and the cops merely have to look for a bullet riddled
van. Simplifies their job immensely.

They can't bluff their way out of a police checkpoint if they have several holes 0.45 inch in diameter
in the body.

IIRC, there where five shooters who started on both sides of a four lane street and worked in and down, so the range was likely less than 30 yards. The Civilian got two before being hit by a third. Two IDF soldiers killed the other three.
