First of all I just want to say FUCK YOU WINDOWS FUCKING CeMeNT XP!! CURSE YOU WINDOWS 3.11!! FUCK OFF MICROSOFT FUCKING SHIT!!! AAAAHHH!! WHY THE FLYING FUCK IN SATANS SHITEATING BITCH ARE MY FUCKING SCRIPTS GONE AS FUCKING HELL?!?!?! AARRGGHHH!! A WHOLE FUCKING WEEK WORTH OF WORK IS FUCKING GONE!! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!
Okay, sorry 'bout that, I'll try calm down, but seriously FUCK!!! For some fucking reason all my script-files for the games I'm making have reset themselves to the state they were in in the beginning of last week (tuesday I think) and thus effectively obliterating three whole levels I made this weekend, a nice script for weather in another game and possibly other things I just haven't noticed yet. ME was overfucking with me so I installed XP instead so now at least the computer works, but goddamnit everything I did last week, programming-wise, is gone! No other files are affected, just the files with the extension [.wdl]. They have reset themselves to the state they were in last tuesday. I did a system restoration before I installed XP but that's not supposed to affect files, and why the hell is it just .wdl files that are fucked up? I've lost almost 1000 lines of code .
Does anybody have any idea what just happened and how I can fix it?
Nooooo!! WTF happened?! FUUUCK!!!

Actually, System Restore does affect files, as you've just seen. It takes a snapshot of whatever data is on your PC at that time and stores an index of it.
At any rate, I've found SR to be nothing but an annoyance. Rarely does it ever work, and it only works at the most inconvenient of times.

But why did it only affect one particular type of file? It would mean that windows had taken backups of just those files and then reset them. But why just them? I had worked with a lot of other files as well, why didn't anything happen to them?

Methinks external tampering. Windows doesn't have a mind of its own
History? I love history! First, something happens, then, something else happens! It's so sequential!! Thank you first guy, for writing things down!

It affected only the files that were changed between the Restore point and whatever time you chose to restore. But why did it only affect one particular type of file?
Sounds like another case of Human Error. Want a whip to flog yourself with?
EDIT: Whoops, I thought you wrote that you had made new files 'tween then and now. Perhaps certain files are given greater priority? Remember, the System Restore option is so that, if your system becomes unstable, you can go back to a stable point. Perhaps it targets script files, in case one of them gets poorly written, implemented, and screws up your system? It would ignore innocuous files like jpegs and docs.

But the script files doesn't affect windows itself, just the program I make games with (this one). And these particular files wasn't any worse written than they were last time I used system restore. Nothing bad happened then. This is really weird.
