Damn. Two top ten teams, both knocked off by teams we've beaten, VaTech beaten as well three spots higher in the BCS...this is like the best bye-week Georgia has ever had!
Looks like BCS for us after all if we can win out!

And for the first time in God knows how long, there are no Florida teams in the top 10. Take a picture, kids, because this is the last time this is going to happen for a long time...

Grrrrrr my Hokies should have beaten the crap out of Pitt if the damn players could hold onto the ball.
It was a good game either way just sucks that we lost. Oh well guess I'll see how the ACC treats us next year.

Bama Vs. LSU
This week is a tough one. Bama faces LSU in Tusculoosa tonight (7:45 pm (ET) - ESPN). Bama is good enough to beat LSU, but they have to play a flawless game against the Tigers, who will be lookin' to avenge a monsterous shutout by the Tide last year in Death Valley. Bama does a pretty good job getting fired up for highly-ranked teams, while they're just as good at getting beaten by teams of seemingly no importance. If Bama wins, I'll be both elated and a bit sad -- elated because, well, Bama won -- sad because, LSU would be likely the last of the SEC teams knocked out of the hunt for the national championship. Tonight will tell... Roll Tide!
As for my alma mater, North Alabama, they face off against West Alabama tonight at 6 pm (ET). UNA is undefeated at 10-0, and they look to cruise into the national championship game. The only team to play the Lions to the wire this year was previously Number 1, Valdosta State, which UNA would likely again face in early rounds of the Division II playoffs. Go Lions!
In other SEC action today, Georgia will face a dangerous Auburn, Florida is surviving a scrappy South Carolina team, and the Vols are destroying hapless Mississippi State.

It looked harry at the end of the first half....
But Tech was VICTORIOUS!!
41 points, and our biggest offensive output of the season.
Though this was against the worst defense in the nation, this is still a huge win.
Hopefully we can carry the good vibes over to Virginia, if we win thier we clinch the Tangerine bowl.
If we are then able to win out over UGA the Peach or Gator bowls may forgive the loss to Duke and accept us.

Bama Pounded by LSU
LSU laid the smackdown on Bama tonight, but the Tide will take a minor victory -- they escaped without being shut out. The Tigers badly wanted to shut out the Tide tonight IOT return the favor from Bama's shutout of LSU last year by a score of 31 to 0. Anyway, good job LSU and congratulations. Now hopefully, USC and Ohio State will find some way to lose, while LSU beats Ole Miss next week IOT set up a showdown between Oklahoma and LSU in the Sugar Bowl.
Next week, Bama will face Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl. If Bama can pull off a victory against those Tigers, then the Tide's season will be a success.
In Division II Football news, my alma mater, North Alabama, trounced West Alabama by a score of 44 to 10. The UNA Lions will now cruise into the Division II playoffs...

Those tigers, they are all talk and no bite and then there is that coach. It is quite satisfying to beat them.

That's two seasons, actually. Although their luck finally did run out once this season, at least. But I think it grew back again.Tsyroc wrote:Has any team had a luckier season than Ohio State?

They've been incredibly lucky in several of their wins this year. They beat Iowa by scoing touchdowns on defense and special teams. This week Purdue missed a field goal allowing OSU to win.Durran Korr wrote: That's two seasons, actually. Although their luck finally did run out once this season, at least. I think the only good team that they've legitimately beaten is Michigan State. All the other victories against good teams have been squeeked through or had something fall in their laps. It should be an interesting game against Michigan next week.

*cry* WHYYYY
My parents are both Purdue Alum. They sent me off to Purdue this year with one piece of advice..."Don't expect anything out of Purdue sports". I thought this was just a joke or something...considering when THEY went to school Purdue was in the dumps in football and basketball (although they were decent in basketball at times...tough competition against IU back in the day).
Well...it wasn't a joke and I shoulda taken heed. Dammit! Two years in a row we have OSU on the ropes and we fuk up! WHYYYY
On a good note, the Chiefs lost today...allowing Bob Griese's '72 Dolphins at least one more year of being the only undefeated team ever. Sweet

Anyone who thinks that Tech vs UGA 2003 won't be a brawl hasn't been paying attention.
Consider all the incentives both programs have to win
Tech:
1.) Avenge last years blowout
2.) Prevent Georgia from setting up a 3 game winning streak against Tech
3.) Get better bowl position for the Peach or Gator bowls. After losing to Dook, a Georgia victory will be important to lift us over the teams we are tied with in the ACC.
4.) Ensure Chan Gailey's job as head coach.
5.) Getting ranked
6.) Ensure competitiveness in recuriting. Right now UGA and Clemson are our two biggest rivals in recruiting. A victory here will make sure that Tech remains competitive in recuriting, which is important with Miami and Virginia Tech coming to the ACC next year.
7.) Re-establish Tech as a national power, which it hasn't been since our 2001 season which was predicted to be a national championship season ended with an 8-5 disapointment. Similar Auburn's situation right now (though Auburn is even worse, Tech in 2001 never lost by the margin of points that Auburn lost)
UGA
1.) A loss to Tech will eliminate them from the SEC title game, and the BCS as well.
2.) A loss to Tech will lower popular opinion of UGA back to what is was when Donnan was coach.
3.) A loss to Tech will push Georgia further down the bowl ladder. Certainly LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennesee will go to better bowls than UGA if Georgia loses.
Both teams have excellent defenses, both teams have struggling offenses.
If Tech plays with the intensity it did against Auburn, FSU, NCSU, and UMD, we can pull the upset.
It UGA plays anything resembling the way they did against Vandy, UAB, and Florida, a UGA loss of almost assured.

Alright, you make some decent points, but I must object to some.
I agree that it won't be the slaughter of last year, and you'll certainly give us more of a game than those arrogant sissy boys from Auburn, but I don't know if it will be a hardcore brawl.
You'll need to beat Virginia as well to be ranked.5.) Getting ranked
You're gonna have to do more than just beat us to do that after the loss to Duke.7.) Re-establish Tech as a national power, which it hasn't been since our 2001 season which was predicted to be a national championship season ended with an 8-5 disapointment. Similar Auburn's situation right now (though Auburn is even worse, Tech in 2001 never lost by the margin of points that Auburn lost)
Whoa whoa whoa whoa...this is just about the most young, injured, and inexperienced team we've had in years. With all the losses we took last year (offensive line and linebackers are all young), the injuries that have been plaguing us since August, we should have at least four losses under our belt (compare that to Auburn; experienced, less injuries, and old), but we've pretty much raised the bar for how to deal with injuries this season and pulled off some impressive wins. We've had new talent step up in a way that most other schools can only envy, and have managed to produce the second-best defense in the country despite loss in depth due to injuries. And seeing how UGA gives new guys opportunities to step up and succeed isn't going to hurt our recruiting. We've had by far the most difficult road of any SEC team this year (no team is even close to us on injuries), and now we're the leader for the SEC East title. We have a lot to play for, no doubt, but a loss to Tech isn't gonna send us back to the Donnan years.2.) A loss to Tech will lower popular opinion of UGA back to what is was when Donnan was coach.
I agree about the offenses, but our defense isn't quite comparable with yours. It's allowed less points for the duration of the season than yours has allowed collectively in your four losses. And we're going to have some starters returning, adding even more depth to an already formidable lineup. Also, our defense has never had an absolute breakdown like yours apparently did with Duke. Both teams have excellent defenses, both teams have struggling offenses.
A repeat of Vandy and UAB won't be happening; we've got our confidence back and we're starting to heal up (although injuries are still severe). If we play like we did against Florida, then you won't be putting any points on the board and we will be, because the defense performed damn well during that game.It UGA plays anything resembling the way they did against Vandy, UAB, and Florida, a UGA loss of almost assured.

It's going to be a big challenge for Winona State to be as competitive next year as we were this year, with a big chunk of our starting lineup, including our quarterback, graduating this spring...

UGA had it's last home game of the year today, in a competent if a wee bit lethargic game against Kentucky and their massive quarterback.
