Survivor: Star Trek vs Star Wars

Post by Ted C »

OK, maybe this one hasn't been done before.

On the Trek team, you have Picard, Riker, Crusher, and Laforge. All characters have their skills and abilities current as of Nemesis.

On the Wars team, you have Luke, Han, Leia, and Lando. All characters have their skills and abilities current as of Return of the Jedi.

Note that I have restricted the teams to human characters only; this assures that everyone has similar requirements for food, water, and shelter and represents potential meat for the scenario's beasties.

On an unrelated side note, why is it that I casually refer to Star Wars characters by their first names but routinely find myself calling Star Trek characters by their last names.

The scenario is Survivor: Pitch Black. Each team is dumped on the planet from the Pitch Black movie. Each is left in an abandoned mining colony similar to the one from the movie, so they have water, a hydroponic garden, a solar power supply, and a solar-powered vehicle.

Night falls one week after the teams arrive and lasts for 72 hours.

Rescue shuttles arrive after sunrise.

Which team has the most (if any) survivors.

I should point out that neither team brings anything other than basic clothing. No blasters, phasers, lightsabres, tricorders, etc.

Also, there should be a third Poll option: Everybody dies. I'm not sure why the BBS didn't take it. If a Mod would be so kind as to add it, I'd appreciate it.

And there you have it!

Force abilities should come in handy.

The War's team is superior, even ignoring Luke's Jedi skills. The members are far more familiar with basic technology and improvising. Though the big question is, do they know about the darkness and the raptors ahead of time? If not then Luke may well be the only survivor of both teams.

A 60 odd year old Captain, a 40 year old Commander, a 55 year old Doctor and a blind man?

Quite a match we have there, maybe 'Bridge Crew of HMS Invincible Vs 8 SAS soldiers' is the type of thread you like, but this is silly. ;)

Well aren't I a silly pudding, I didn't factor in the Pitch Black factor. Wars still wins against an old bunch of starship crewmembers.

Everyone dies but Luke, because he goes into a Jedi healing trance and doesn't need food for a week, while everyone else starves.

Star Wars wins :)

Since I have not watch this movie I vote, everyone dies seems like an abstain vote.~Jason
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

You gave Luke access to technology, he's a Jedi Knight, and you don't think he can come up with a Lightsaber?

Star Wars wins it. Luke could sense the raptors, just move a boulder or two in front of the cave to keep them out (or how many was needed) once the cave was cleared out by him using the Force to make the creatures leave, then they could all hide while Luke uses the Force to keep the creatures looking elsewhere.

The Star Wars team wins. Vin Disel had only night vision yet he survived. With his force powers Luke can not only avoid the raptors but also fight them if necessary.

Actually, Geordi does have his implants, since they're basically inseparable from him. This means that the Star Trek side actually does have someone who can see clearly in the dark.

Handy, yes. But Obi-Wan pointed out to Anakin in AOTC that a Jedi without a lightsabre is pretty close to a sitting duck.

Considering the fact that Vin Disel had worse vision than Geordi and survived I say the Trek side does stand a chance.

That depends on the nature of the enemy. Here a lightsabre is not needed.

The trek side should have Data since the Star Wars side got Luke.

Since he would require access to the Empire/Republic technology base, no, I don't think he can. The resources available on the Pitch Black planet aren't nearly as sophisticated.

The hydroponic gardens work; starvation is not a problem.

No, it wasn't. It was good. I know it was, because I thought so.

It had numerous bad points (like the total lack of a sensible ecosystem for the monsters), but it had some good points too (the characters, if fairly one-dimensional, were played pretty well).

Interesting. No doubt because the ST crew are officers on a starship who are in a command structure and go by rank and last name, while the SW crew are buddies who call themselves by their first names.
If you don't ask, how will you know?

Trek team: two military officers, a surgeon who'd put any other human doctor in sci-fi to shame, and an engineer who can see the whole EM spectrum and God knows what else.

Wars team: one unarmed Jedi, one pilot and smuggler, a diplomat, and a crime boss cum mayor.

Trek, easily. Team Wars was hardly ever put in situations like this. Team Trek does this crap every other week, and they're all used to figuring out new species. And they can read Terran English. And they've got Radar LaForge.
