Pledge of Allegience and legal precedent

Post by Shadow WarChief »

Engel v. Vitale

A brief summary: The New York School Board made a prayer for kids to recite every day. The case made it to SCOTUS and the justices demolished every argument the School Board used to defend themselves, which include the "under god" advocate's favorites:

–It's non-denominational
-It's not mandatory
-Lack of government endorsement is the same as government suppresion

The most interesting part of the whole thing is the date this decision was handed down: 1962.

There are so many schools that seem to do this in the US. Just ask about it at the ChannelOne.com or GP4Teens.com forums, each class has to recite the pledge or some prayer regardless of what they think.

Now, I went to to a C of E primary school and we had assemblies with prayer, but I can't imagine the amount of stuff that goes on in the schools mentioned on those boards.
