WTF is he talking about? I have absolutely no idea why "all Star Trek technology is based on the trans-stator principle." I would demand evidence that he back up his claim, but he'd doubtless claim I was flaming him (he claimed I was flaming him just because I didn't respond to "RampagingDude's" flames when I was addressing HIM!) and blatantly abuse the Style over Substance Fallacy in order to escape. I think its mentioned in TOS that the trans-stator is the basis of all Fed tech. IIRC "A Piece of the Action." Mccoy left his communicator on the planet and Spock laments that the communicator contains trans tator technology and thus the imitative aliens may replicate Federation tech.

I remember that! I also remember thinking that it was stupid. This is like saying that the transistor is found in most modern tech, so if you gave a cellphone to Da Vinci he would swiftly replicate the entire modern technological world.

Kinda. Basically, he's a fucking retard. the writers grabbed the name of a common piece of tech that sounds nifty (the trans-stator), and the fact that it has been used acouple of times and the fact he knows nothing at all about electric components makes him leap to the conclusions 1) It's really advanced and 2) everything uses it

From my understanding (and a true electrician, feel free to contradict me here) its just a diferent kind of stator. And a stator is just a coil of wire that has a current applied to it to make it an electromagnet for a generator. Now I'd imagine it's a variation off of the standard 3 phase AC design, but I'm not quite clear on that. Isn't Isolder an electrician? He can probably explain better then me what it is.

Either way, its a car component, as a quick google search will reveal.

Well in a way. The only argument to wich he has responded with more than 1 to 5 words has thus far been the midi-chlorian argument while the response to wrecking of the science in his calculations was dismissed with a few words and the rest of the arguments that i put up there in that thread were completely ignored.
