The Grand Empire is centered on the New Australia system, which contains the twin habitable worlds of Brisbane and Hollifax. The Grand Empire controls seven other systems directly, and keeps four other major and minor fiefdoms, under threat of violence, as vassals. The Grand Empire's power is checked by a dozen smaller pirate fiefdoms surrounding it.

This region has all the hallmarks of a quagmire- an area which would require extreme resource expenditure to conquer.

As long as the Grand Empire remains hosstile to the Commonwealth, the subdueing of the territory is likely impossible. That being the case, efforts should be taken to remove the Grand Empire's ability to govern itself as soon as possible.

"Shasta, you have failed to answer our query, you are on course for HAB space. Shutdown your engines at once or be destroyed."
