Overextended? Yeah, pretty much. On the other hand, I'm covering this space in conjecture with n umerous other powers, and I'm the one who's been tasked with covering the border between the Azegart Empire and your own power.

Randomly patrolling? That I can't do. Watching your border territories? Oh, that I an capable of.

If the Zerg Overmind has been defeated, then what are the Lost doing right now?

The way I understood it the Lost/Zerg war was taking place in this universe, but in other galaxies. Considering that they originally fought in this universe and had no reason to expand the conflict to other universes it only makes sense.

I'll investigate further.

EDIT:
If we're following Marina's timeline then are are indeed Zerg in other universes.

The Zerg/Lost conflict spans about three universes. The Zerg infestation of this universe is mostly burned out, though there might be spacer legends about a ship the size of a dreadnought turning like a fighter and frying some monsters. The Lost exist, right now, solely in case I need to thwap a Transcend-style powergamer.

Commonwealth tech is very simple to replicate, and quite unimpressive. There is really nothing you would find that couldn't be easily purchased from a Commonwealth arms corporation, even in these trying times.

Of course, the vessel's battle computers and codebooks self-destructed, as is standard practice for abandoned vessels.

Actually, no. They are powered by exotic-matter Fusion powerplants. Of course, hypermatter reactors are common in the Commonwealth, and can be easily purchased.

Well, it's superior to hydrogen fusion, which is what my behemoths use now.

To understand why I'm laughing, the reason my ships are big is because I can't replicate good power sources; each ship contains dozens, maybe hundreds, of reactors. Imagine multiple, denser, powersources.

Eh, I'll not let it happen for a while yet. But it should make all your scientists scared.

Listen, I will GLADLY sell your empire 50 escort-scale EM Fusion plants and, say, 3 Dreadnought-scale EM fusion plants. They'll all be military grade.

Why would sell military reactors to the power that's making a point of heavily raiding the shipping of one of your allies?

I'm not selling military reactors. My nation relies heavily on it's numerous arms manufacturing companies, and those companies would sell to the Black Alliance.

the Alliance's nature means that even if my government did forbid the sale of weapons by private companies, the Alliance would be able to effect purchases through back channels and puppets.

Well, I wouldn't say that, but keeping my empire in character is certainly good.

The Commonwealth is a free market society, and a fairly nice one at that, as long as you ignore the fact that power rests in the hands of a cabal of military and Agency eliltes...

Um Nitram? so you attack me inside my space, attacking PLN salvage ships, which, like all other PLN ships have a constant ansible connection to home. Completely ignore the Task Force that is extremely close by, and by alrights should be going back in roughly the same direction, and so are effectively escorting the salvage fleet, and I know NOTHING?!? And not only that, but I use a completely different FTL drive than you, which causes no small problem in actually hurting me while traveling.

Here's what: Revoke that post, and I'll out fit our fleet with a set of DC cores for minimal charge, so long as you don't prey on my shipping.

Buy the cores from teh Commonwealth, and you'll still be able to prey on Commonwealth shipping to your heart's content... Seriously, it's no questions asked!

I'd sell them cheaper. And DC cores will use literally anything, from water, to dead bodies, to spaceship parts. I don't need exotic fuels.

You can probably figure out what happened pretty quick. Come on; we're pirates, with a vastly superior force, in an ambush. There was a fucking battleship in there; are your salvage conveys that well protected now? One of the three battleships I have; making them pretty nasty fuckers.

Here's what: No. I'm a pirate nation. What I do is prey on shipping. Expecting the Alliance not to hit your ships on occasion is like expecting the rain not to fall on the ground.

Commonwealth cores can be refueled from the atmosphere of your local gas giant, thank you very much, and they are famously durable and easy to maintain.

Vastly superior? Then you just wiped out a good 5% of my combat fleet! 3 TFs / fleet. 6 fleets. (7th is mostly frigates and destroyers, which have massively less firepower.)

And I'm supposed to not notice you inside my territory, with a battleship?

The salvage convoy was being escorted by the Task Force for the very good reason that there isn't much of a reason to keep the Task Force out on the border, when it would be better served staying closer to my core worlds, helping to deter an invasion attempt.

And the constant ansible connection works through dimensions see ASVS STGOD1 where the NR, NRMD, and the TE all used ansibles across dimensions. The only way you could have gotten rid of the ansibles all before I got a good enough reading would have been to vaporize the entire convoy, before anyone could react.

Beowulf has a preetty good point, Nitram- that was a squadron of the wall, preaps equivalent to one of my own Dreadnought groups. It's a significant portion of his naval power.

Still not as easy as the DC core to feed, and the DC core is garunteed for life.

But the DC core is also considerably larger. Commonwealth vessels can often fit 2-3 banks of reactors, without comprimising other ship criticals. The EM Fusion core is compact, which is what you want for a military craft.
