Trek continuity as relates to Enterprise etc...
I've seen some complaints by people here that the new Trek series Enterprise isn't following the exact time lines that people think it should follow. Personally, I think most of these timelines are garbage put together from various sources (official and unofficial) and thus could be disregarded on that basis alone.
However, another theory runs along the basis of multiple time-lines which appear to occur in the trek universe. Does this need to be the same timeline that the TOS occured in? No it doesn't. Therefore, this gives the writers the freedom to alter small details like when the romulans got cloaking technology. This may annoy some "trekkie historians" but to hell with em I say because it makes for a more interesting story if you don't know when and where everything big will happen. Personally, I think its a decent show if you give it half a chance with the technobabble cut down to a minimum and some truly memorable characters.

For example when people communicate within the ship, the comm panels (or whatever) do a sound similar to the TNG beep-blop. In TOS, they did a whistley thing.
Any reason they would use one kind of ring, then another, then switch back?
IMO it would have been a nice touch to have each crewmember a personalized beep like a Nokia tune.

Agreed. Also a new writing staff or using scripts from outside writers would improve the program.Admiral_K wrote:I've seen some complaints by people here that the new Trek series Enterprise isn't following the exact time lines that people think it should follow. I think multiple timelines are necessary to explain all the events we see in Star Trek. But we also know for certain, that mirror universes exist in Trek, so that's another escape clause.
Besides its not like the characters would know if they lived in the true timeline or universe.

Enterprise is a timeline generated from the events in Star Trek, First Contact. It is not pre-TOS. It is just a different world. DO NOT PAY HEED TO THE DEMONS WRITING!

I accepted the timeline thing long ago.
It's still makes it a cop out, B&B are simply too stupid to make a show that would actually fit the continuity, and this proves it.
Also, even if it did respect continuity with TOS, Enterprise is a badly written, badly acted sexually immature show which wouldn't even get half a season if it wasn't part of the Star Trek cash cow.

Like most Trek, Enterprise is one of those thing I want to like but don't. The Enterprise universe is large enough to have plenty of story arcs that are independent from the other series and flesh out the early years of the federation. Instead the Bitch & Bastard want to rewrite every stupid episode from their earlier shows and rewrite the established history of Trek. Instead of characters driven stories, they use gimmicks established in the other shows to fill their pittiful episodes.
You can come up with any reason you want for the continuity problems, but in the end its just bad writting and a abysmal attempt to recreate TOS in their image.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

A question about Trek continuity, in the NG episode "First Contact" (The episode, not the movie), didn't some one state that the federation advanced the Klingons to warp technology which is the reason the "prime directive" was established, because it lead to war, and a warp of the Klingon culture or something like that? Has this happened in Enterprise (I have not seen a single episode so I am ignorant of the show)?

The point is...
There may or may not be a "romulan war" because this is a different timeline from the ones seen in previous Trek series. Try not to even fit it into a timeline, rather think of it as a series set in a "trek like" universe.
IIRC my only theory on Enterprise was that B&B are going to use the Temporal Time War as a big reset button. When they are finished with the series they press the button and suddenly none of this ever happened.SPOOFE wrote:I believe Alyeska had a theory on this that was pretty nice.
