Well, the Army has called...
... And I am answering. I am being transferred to another Combat Engineer unit and will be reporting to a Mobilization Station sometime around the beginning of December.
While there are realistic chances of going to Afghanistan, what's left of Yugoslavia, Turkey, Germany, or even Korea, the truth is the most likely destination will be Iraq. Actually, the historian in me is intrigued at the idea...
The duty doesn't phase me, the hardest part will be missing my friends-- and breaking the news to Lilith was not easy. I'll try to give updates as soon as I can, and when possible I'll try to be in contact from wherever I end up but that is not something that can be guaranteed.
Later.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

Well damn, good luck wherever you end up, and may the incoming fire be
weak and aimed into the air away from you

Well, at the risk of sounding selfish, I hope when they send your unit over they'll send my brother-in-laws unit back. He's been there for a long time now.Coyote wrote:... And I am answering. Anyway, goodluck and keep your head down.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Good luck, don't get killed or maimed.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
Emphasis mine.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Good luck, hopefully this won't be too harsh on you. Just see it as a new leg in an adventure.
Speaking of new legs...if you need one, I may be able to get you one. At a good price, too! All I'd need from you is a needle, some thread, and a hacksaw.
Seriously, watch yourself over there. And bring back pictures!

Good luck, and look out for the fields covered in grids of landmine shaped depressions.

Best of luck. If you're right about the whole Iraq thing (and I really hope you aren't)- eyes open (steer clear of sus-looking piles of rocks). I am not joking.
