Booing during another Nations National Anthem?

Post by Lord Pounder »

I've just turned on my TV, Wales are playing Russia at home. The Welsh fans booed all the way through the Russian National Anthem. Whats your opinion on such occurances?

For my part i strongly disagree. A nations national anthem should be respected, while it's played the opposing nation should have the common courtasy to STFU. I've been to see Ireland play in Dublin and although not my own anthem i've stood and respected the Soldier Song.

That's just disrespectful and boorish. There were a few clowns booing during "Oh Canada" at a Flyers-Senators playoff game last year and I wanted to smack them.

it's complete idiocy. do they think they'll get more respect from their fellow countrymen by booing another nation anthem, just because they don't necessarily like the country?

they wouldn't like it if some other nation booed while their national anthem was played. what gives them the fucking right to boo someone elses?

It's cloddish and moronic behaviour. You can show some basic respect at the very least. No one's expecting you to cheer for them but a bit of common respect should be expected.

Here in Michigan we often end up listening to the Canadian anthem before sporting events (particularly hockey) and I always take my hat off and stand up the same as I would for the US anthem. It's just good manners.

People with foreheads that keep their feet dry in the rain do this sort of thing. It's the stuff of troglodytes, sport has a lot of these fans.

Booing as stated in the OP is in poor taste. In fact here at Texas A&M University booing is bad bull(low class~not accepted) and instead we hiss. Now of course that doesn't stop idiots from doing it. Anyway it is extremely rude to do it during the opposing teams anthem.

Trashy behaviour. Since eveyone is posting negative comments, i'll restore some faith in humanity. A world cup qualifying match a few years back between the United States and Iran was held in Tehran. Iranians in attendance happily cheered after the US national anthem. Iranians chhering the 'great satan'. Seems like those Welch soccer fans, and the hockey fans in Philly could learn something from their Persian counterparts.

I find it completely abhorrent and distasteful. The troglodytes who do it deserve a bullet to the nuts IMNSHO...

Booing the national of another country at a sporting event is a sign of mental defect.

should be "illegal" in my opinion.

Booing another sides national anthem is disrepectful.

however, i've seen england supporters do it, although, we hardly have the best reputation in the world

You should have heared and seen what happened before, while and after the game of the German under-21 years team, when they had played, and won, against Turkey yesterday. Only booing is harmless against that kind a total idiocy and brutality....

Thats why i personally think the Turks should be banned from International Soccer, England got an international ban in the 80's for less.

The international team was never banned. The club teams were banned from European competition, but the international team was left alone mostly. To be fair, if they had banned our international team, they couldn't really be blamed the way our fans acted.

I was only born in 1980, i was close enough. However my point still stands that Turkey sould be banned from all competitions.

Incidently Wales where beaten, serves the cunts right for booing another nations national anthem.

I'm operating under the assumption that this was at a soccer, *cough* football game. So to that I say be glad that is what just booing and not a full blown riot. Besides, the Wales were probably too drunk to understand what they were doing anyway.

Wales soccer hooligans are to Britons as Oakland Raiders fans are to Americans. :P

Living in Buffalo, which is less than ten minutes from the Canadian border. we play the Canadian national anthem before every hockey game. I don't put my hand over my heart or sing along or take my hat off if I happen to be wearing one (which I do during the US anthem) but I do stand and shut my mouth. It's simply showing decency to another nation.
