The movie Last Man On Planet Earth depicts a curious scenario. In order to reduce civilian causalties scientist create a biological weapon that only targets men since most soldiers are male. Somehow this weapon is accidentaly released and the entire male population on earth is wiped out. The women all survive and decide to create an all female society. In order to reproduce they use cloning technologies to create clones of themselves.

Now what do you think of this scenario ? Could something like this ever happen ?

Using a gender specific weapon to "Reduce civillian casualties" Is (As has been already stated) a mile high load of horse shit.

And the whole "No war because women are in charge and women are nice" seems like crap too.

it probably wouldn't take all that long to rebuild the male population, raid the sperm banks... and impregnate a load of women... kill off all the female results until you get a male one for all the females until all the sperm is gone...

then.... 14/15 years later, when they are old enough to reproduce get them fucking all the females who survived, well atleast... those who aren't too old so they can atleast get it up....

im sure that would is every young males dream lol.... sex toy for the women...

DC comics is currently publishing a series called Y: The Last Man that follows the last man on Earth. It's one of their Vertigo line and I think it's pretty good. The first couple parts are out in trade paperback format but the serries is still ongoing.

In the ones I've read it's dealt with the government (I think it is the secretary of agriculture who ends up president of the US), wacko cults ("Amazons", people destroying the sperm banks etc...) some seriously messed up infrastructure and mysteries. No one knows why all the males of the world died. No one knows why the main character and his pet monkey (also male) survived.

One of the more amusing parts that I recall has to do with a former model bitching about having wasted her money getting a boob job now that all the men are dead.

Important items are brought up like what percentage of the work force women in specific jobs world wide . Very few female commercial airline pilots. No women on US submarines (presumably all those at sea when the men died were lost). Countries that typically have more trained women in their military to start with will automatically have an edge on other countries.

It's an interesting series, well thought out and entertaining.

Unlike the aformentioned movie. If you haven't seen it, i wouldn't recommend it. It's a peice of shit.

Depends.

If you're trying to completely destroy the enemys population, then killing all the women would leave them unable to replace lost soldiers and civillians. not to mention the massive morale blow it would cause.

I agree with DSider here. If you kill all the women, there's no one to reproduce. You can kill anyone in any army, but with new people being born every day to eventually take the place of those dead, you aren't gonna get anywhere. Of course, this will take a decade or two to really affect things, depending on what age people are put into service... but the morale loss would be instant. Will Johnny still want to fight if he knows there's noone back home to fight for?

If you kill all of the other side's women you just pissed off their army even more and given them another reason to come after your country because you still have women.

A bunch of crazed vengance seeking extremely horny soldiers. Yep, that'll work better.

Granted, killing off all the women would probably work better in the long run if you are in a war of attrition but in the short term I think you made your advesaries that much more dangerous.

How long do war of attritions usually last for? This one would have to run over 15 years at least.

I don't know that it would have to be that long but I think it would have to be pretty long for the elimination of incoming population to become a problem.

Besides, who's to say that the guys without any women can't steal women and/or children from the other side?

If you really have to destroy an enemy's populace like that, then Homing Endonuclease Genes (HEGs) would be a good weapon to effectively stop all reproduction in the targetted species with at least a >95% success rate.

A word of warning though, such tech has been looked at into eradicating mosquitoes once and for all. Extinction. If this genetic data managed to infect your civilians and military personnel as well then in the future you could find your own side dying off or even the whole species unless you have a lot of fresh sperm and egg donors.

No, I'm just thinking clearly. If you only kill all the men, that would still leave the women, who can reproduce as they're the child-bearing sex.

Killing all the women instead makes more sense, since then you would have absolutely zero chance of allowing the human race to continue. It would die with the most recent generation within 100 years.
