Sorry, Morat, I dindn't want to insult you. I just saw the prestige of my beloved ISD in danger (guess I really love them too much).
Part of the reason I wanted an ISD was it's power. But not the whole.
I like the ISDs intimidating look and this aura of fear and coolness that's surrounding it.
If culture ships are more powerful that's just fine, btw I've never heard anything about those guys.
Yet, I'd still prefer the ISD, it's just my personal preferance for these dagger-shaped, cool, elegant, lethal-looking, wonderous technological war machines....

Culture is book-based. TV is nowhere near imaginative enough to put something that far out of the box on the screen.David wrote:Is it in a TV show or in a book?
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

Haha just joking Cap.
My personal fav is a tie between the Shadow mothership and the Executor.
No, really, what about a hybrid between the two monstrosities? hehehe

"I'd go to SW universe.
My first priority would of course be getting command over an ISD. Enough power to devastate whole worlds! And additionally, the ship looks cool and intimidating! What do I need sex, a long life or a natural death when I've got an ISD?"
Ah, killing as a sexual outlet. You have a point.

"Culture ships fight at ranges measured in light years."
Uh, when was that? IIRC, when the Idiran war rolled around they fought at distances of light-hours, no more.
"Their EM Effectors (all military drones and ships carry them) can basically do anything your average high-powered telepath can do, plus other nifty stuff like draining energy out of things."
I'd say it the other way around - they affect electromagnetic phenomena like current and charge, with a resolution fine enough to affect the electron flow in the brain.

Culture war machines are IIRC made to look ugly. The Culture doesn't want war to seem cool.

IIRC, they destroyed that orbital in CP from light-years away.Uh, when was that? IIRC, when the Idiran war rolled around they fought at distances of light-hours, no more.
I would agree with that.I'd say it the other way around - they affect electromagnetic phenomena like current and charge, with a resolution fine enough to affect the electron flow in the brain.
I dunno. I think those "armored" ROU's (don't recall the class name) from Excession sounded kinda cool-looking, in a utilitarian kinda way.Culture war machines are IIRC made to look ugly. The Culture doesn't want war to seem cool.

An Orbital is stationary.

Well, I only read Excession once, and it was a while ago. I liked Use of Weapons better.

Do not insult me! It isn't the Empire, it's the Coalition States, thank you very much.In Rifts there's the balance of magic and science. Although I'd be more turned to the Empire (nice and evil) with their black, skull-faced armor, the rest of the world does feature many opportunities.
I'd probably choose Rifts, just cause I know my way around. This is assuming I have a ton of PPE, or a Glitter Boy, with all the necessary skills. Hell, becoming a secondary vampire would be cool, too.
Gotta love Rifts...
I had a Bill Maher quote here. But fuck him for his white privelegy "joke".
All the rest? Too long.

There's also the infamous "eleven microsecond"-battle in Excession where Killing Time tore through the fleet of older Culture ships, which were spread over atleast thirty light years of space.
Then there's this quote from Consider Phlebas:
Then there's this quote from Consider Phlebas:
I don't personally believe in the kiloton rated handweapons, since I can't recall any incident where such a number could come from. Not to say that they aren't quite powerful. In Use of Weapons Zakalve blew up a 15 meter cube of ice with one shot from an antigue plasma gun."He looked for the Culture ship, then told himself to not to be stupid; it was probably still several trillion kilometres away. That was how divorced from the human scale modern warfare had become. You could smash and destroy from unthinkable distances, obliterate planets from beyond their own system and provoke stars into novae from light-years off . . . and still have no good idea why you were fighting."

Well, for sex I would think of one universe.....Lexx. As for which Universe I would live in, I would have to say DragonLance, any time during or after the War of the Lance.

That gun was a strange one. It's stated maximum output for a single shot was 3.1*8^10 joules. This is only equal to about 800kg of TNT (kiloton=1000,000kg of TNT). Yet it was capable of shooting down a starship. The drones undoubtedly have weapons that are stronger than an antigue Culture handgun, but kiloton range? I'm have yet to see any proof of this.Morat wrote:Wasn't that stolen Culture gun from The State of the Art rated in kilotons per second?

But SW universe is my default choice. If only to join the Imperial Navy.

Hmmmm.... There are several universes I'd like to live, but I'd have to say
the world of Hikch Hiker Guide to the Galaxy would be near the top of my list, the world of Dune would really cool too, of couse SW, Rifts would be good as I've always liked the post apocyliptic world settings, and many, many, others would all be good.
