What are some good adventure films?
Ok, I want to know what some adventure films are, just give a title and a short summary of the story(a couple sentences would be nice). So what are some good adventure films?
btw,m here is what I'm looking for: a collage of characters, moments of humor, a journey, and a good fight at the end.(maybe even a few twists)
LXG is a prime example(of the genre, I don't care if you hated the film)

Surely the Indiana Jones films have to come up first.

Indiana jones trilogy.... nuff said.
I rather liked "The Mummy Returns" as an action adventure film
Slightly off-topic.
I havn't heard any rumors in quite a while.
They aren't actually making a 4th Indy film are they?

And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks
Conan the Barbarian if you want some mythology in your adventure.
Romancing the Stone is really fun too--kinda like a pop 80's version of Indiana Jones.
The Goonies is always one of the great adventure flicks, even if it is aimed at children. And of course the mighty Army of Darkness.
Lesse, recent films...depends on what your definition of "adventure" is (theres a fine line between an all-out "action" film and a so-called "adventure" film...and of course some so-called "adventure" films have little in the way of chases and explosions)... Bourne Identity and Italian Job come to mind as fun, adventurous flicks. Punkette & Macleane is always an underrated movie that far too little people have seen...damn cant really think of any good examples right now. Jackie Chan's Shanghai Noon is always a great watch.

The first mummy was way better than the second one, it had all sort of good adventure stuff and humour etc in it...excellent stuff....hmm, does James Bond count?
Personally, i think they could do a new Indy film right...perhaps it would be difficult, but i do think it'd be possible.
Army of Darkness...Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Out of just this year's crop I would say two movies:
1) Pirates of the Caribbean. This movie had some absolutely hilarious moments and is quite possibly the first movie with pirates that does justice to everyone's favorite class of scum and villany. Its a Disney movie which garuntees a cheesy happy ending but it doesn't detract from the film
2) The Rundown. Now I know what poeple are thinking: The Rock as a lead character? This time it works and with Christoher Walken doing a comic impersonation of himself from every other movie he's done you just get some great chemistry. Add in the exotic locale, the neat fights (as a nice bow to adventure vice action The Rock's charcter doesn't use guns...suppossedly), and a quest and you have all the ingredients you need for a plain ol' fun time.

Omar Sharif quit acting because he thought the film was so terrible. Good for action scenes--i'm a sucker for films featuring armor-clad barbarians decapitating people with swords. But a rather poorly scripted film.Stofsk wrote:The 13th Warrior, starring Antonio Banderas. While it is chock full of action, it is mainly adventure. It is also really cool.

You do have a point about the scripting; it does seem a bit "funny" at times. As for Omar Sharif, he was in the film for what, 2-3 scenes? He really quit acting based on what was essentially a cameo role?zombie84 wrote:Omar Sharif quit acting because he thought the film was so terrible. As for the OP, I can't really think of any other adventure movies. Unless you count sci-fi, which includes pretty much all of ST, SW, FarScape etc.
Hidden Fortress is an adventure movie, of sorts (it's a samurai film done by Kurosawa). It has more "adventure" than action, at least. I'd include Seven Samurai as well. They're both adventures in feudal Japan. Don't watch them, however, if you can't stand b/w movies that have subtitles. Both are of considerable length as well (SS if I recall approaches 3hrs or over, while HF is over 2hrs long).

Wow, LOTR is an "adventure" movie?
"Romancing the Stone" is a much much better pick.

Adventures in Babysitting
Willow
The Lethal Weapon series (more Action than Adventure but still great)
The Thomas Crown Affair ~Pierce Brosnan not quite being Bond, but you get Rene Russo naked mmmmmm...
Labyrinth ~yes, with muppets and David Bowie in tights
Cutthroat Island~ Gena Davis fun action & adventure
The Long Kiss Goodnight ~ more Gena Davis action & adventure + Samuel L. Jackson has many great one liners in this one!
The Fugitive ~Harrison Ford movie
The Three Muskateers ~Disney version with Charlie Sheen
Ocean's 11 ~ either the Rat Pack version or the newer Clooney one both are favorites of mine.
Sneakers ~ it is a Robert Redford flick nuff' said.
and pretty much any 007 movie is great action & adventure.
