Yes I hear those exact words from my Trekkie friend all the time. I dunno, four is really a family friendly movie and eight is like some cheesey B-movie with Trek. Lots of yelling and silly charing down dark corridors with vacuums er.. phasers in hand. Six is prety good, though still not really that memorable I guess.

So you admit to not liking Trek. In other words you are looking at it from a biass. You would rather have Trek killed off because you don't like it and deny it to others rather then just not watch it. Thats selfish pure and simple. That would be like some bum on the street having the LOTR movies killed cause he didn't like them.VF5SS wrote:Yes I hear those exact words from my Trekkie friend all the time. Face it, the Trek movies do reasonably well, and the even numbered ones are the best movies of the bunch.

Ease down, Alyeska. He's not trying to start some kind of "kill Trek" campaign, for chrissakes. He's just saying that he doesn't like it, that it will probably die if it can't staunch the bleeding of shitty-quality writing, and that he for one won't miss it. Big deal.Alyeska wrote:So you admit to not liking Trek. In other words you are looking at it from a biass. The even-numbered ones range from OK to great. However, the worst of the odd-numbered ones were simply intolerable. Need I mention the "row, row, row your boat" scene in ST5?Face it, the Trek movies do reasonably well, and the even numbered ones are the best movies of the bunch.

I do not and will never defend ST:5 other then 2 things. Jerry Goldsmith did the improved theme in it and combined it with March of the Klingons. The second thing is Scotty was the only good character in the entire movie.
Ok, there were two other cool things. Those shuttles were rather well made and I liked the Assault Phasers they introduced in this movie.
Other then that the majority of the characters were protrayed terribly, the scenes sucked ass, and the plot was pathetic.
And I actually saw the movie in the theaters, though I didn't pay for the ticket.

Am I crazy when I say I actually LIKED the "row row your boat" scene. particularly Spock's "But life is NOT a dream."
It summed up these characters who had been friends for decades and how they acted together when out of uniform and away from the confines of the ship.
Then again I just could be crazy....

Actually I agree with Stravo...that was one of the good points...though the rest of the film(except "What does God need with a starship?"...I crack up at the line)is rather blech
For the most part ST2, and 6 were really my only decent ones with ST2 being the best. The Next Gen stuff has been rather mediocre to piss-poor and Nemesis is not really promising even ST6, let alone Khan.

HEY! I went to see ST 5 with my Dad. That fat fucker rarely goes to the movies. Not only that but we went to see Generations as well. Nothing beats the look on his face when Data goes 'Oh shit!'. Yeah. So no more bad talking about 5, it had, well, I think merit, but it was definitely not St4. Anyways, no one needs to start a 'Kill Star Trek' campaign. Nemesis has that one taken care of. I'm too busy trying to get Farscape off the air anyways. Okay, okay. The 'row row row your boat' come on, that was actually a great part. It's things like that, which make you look at this futuristic Earth and still be able to kind of reach out to it. Good friends out in the wilderness camping. Whatever. We all know Wrath of Kahn established two things. First, Revenge of the Jedi became the best title for a movie ever Return of the Jedi. The implications are beyond what they could be. Second, Trek can kick all types of ass and give movie goers 44 semi hell for a $5 price.

TNG was good. The Dominion war portion of DS9 was good. But everything else that Bozo and Binhead have turned out since has been so utterly aweful that I won't be shedding any tears when the franchise is finally put out of its misery.

My Star Trek Ranking Order
1. ST:II- Very Tactical, basically took "Balance of terror" to the big screen, Khan is a bad ass enemy of Kirk. Cool Ship battle scenes, they kill Spock.
2. ST:VI- Cool Battle, good politics going on, shows growth and continuity with the next gen. Great way to end the Original Crew
3. ST:I-Long and dry, but still had a decent story, and some intresting concepts.
4. ST:IV-Fun, semi intresting, does this mean whales are genetically engineered spies. At least it had an original story.
5. ST:III-Nice continuation of 2, but some of the plot rubs thin. A few cool concepts, They destroy the Enterprise, that takes balls (the first time).
6. ST:V-Well uhm...Spock has a brother.....ah The new shield read out on the E-A was neat.
The Next Gen: All garabage thus far. The least was was First contact, but they put the giant space battle at the begining of the freakin movie. After that my expectations were higher, which the rest of the movie was a let down. Generations Sucked, most likely the worst of the treks, and not to far behind is that other one I can not think of the name of, the one with the planet of youth, what ever.
Nemesis- previews look good, but so did first contact. I am setting myself up for disappointment, hopefully I will be surprised.

The last Trek movie I saw was ST VI, and I haven't watched Trek since post Dominion DS9 (Actually I stopped watching in Senior year of HS.. about 6 years ago.. and watched occasional eps that actually showed combat scenes.. I was more into B5 at the time anyhow, as I recall.)
Nowadays I've gotten tired of trek entirely. I used to like TOS and TNG, but I dont ocnsider it worth my time rewatching. Same goes for the movies. My GF hates Trek anyhow
I dont mean to flame trek, but the one thing that REALLY bugged me was how they've contracted people in the movies til they were almost in teh grave. Kirk and Spock and such should have ended at Star Trek IV (you sort of had to follow through from three, after all.)... 5 and 6 should have been TNG-era.
I also think they should have started WAY earlier for the TNG movies if they were going to use them. IMO the TNG crowd is starting to go that same route. If they were going to keep making movies like this, at least they hsould have used the "newer" DS9 or even Voyager crowd.
Honestly no offense to trek fans, but I don't consider near-geriatric Kirk or Picard to be quite the same as in the TV show.. and it really ruins the movies. I would feel the same way if Lucas tried making post-ROTJ movies using Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, or Harrison Ford. It doesn't carry the same effect.

I've had movies to myself on two occasions, first one was for the LotR on my 4th time viewing. Second was "The Others" that was creepy. Big screen, surround sound and NO other noise enhances spookiness.anarchistbunny wrote:Much.
Hey ever had a movie theatre to yourself or just you and a group of friends before?
For the first 5 minutes of Me, Myself, and Irene me and a friend did, it was pretty cool, til some bastards walked in as we where running and cart wheeling about.
Actually Nemesis is supossed to be the last TNG movie. That and there are no plans for DS9 or VGR movies.

Hey, calm down there, Al. I know there will be thousands of Trekkies coming to see it. I know B n' B are idiots but they must be doing something right if they've gone on this far. Namely, appeal to the average Trekkie.

Actually, I may have to agree with him on that one. THe books rule, but the movie was just bleh. They kept in stupid stuff that should have been cut (IEthe door riddle) and cutr important things like the character development between G & L or the reforging of the sword. The SFX were nothing spectacular and had all been done before in other films, and at times the overlap between the sound and SFX made it so I couldn't here the dialogue.Isolder74 wrote:Oh really, an what brought you to that conclusion? I didn't care for it and will not be going to see TT in the theatres. And unless it is really good there is no way in hell I'm gonna spend 4 hours in there for Return of the King.

Do you realize how hard it is to turn those books into movies? Hey wow, I just saw Trek 2 for the first time. Interestin' film there. Cerntainly pretty well done, thouhg some parts were somewhat useless padding but its still pretty good. Definately made the two TNG films I saw look like utter shit. The phasers were firing pulses which I thought was a bit strange. Also the hand phasers looked like friggen electric razors on a stick. Yeesh.
