thats fucking bullshit, and it gives Atheists a bad rap. Let people celebrate th holidays, and if there is some other groups left out then celebrate their holidays too. Goddammit it pisses me off that when presented with the choice of celebrating all of the beliefs of a diverse student body and forcibly banning the practice of those beliefs , schools and the ACLU choose the latter.

Jesus, they can't even play music of a religious nature at school anymore? There goes half of the Western canon...

Ah of course Athiests = Evil, Christians = Accepting bunch of well rounded nice guys."Almost all Jews recognize that America's Christian heritage is the main reason our country is not infected with the scourge of anti-Semitism seen in post-Christian Europe,"
Oh and the ACLU is full of idiots, like it needed to be said.

Dude it's linked to that jolly fat man in devils Red, that loony fuck flying around endangering Colorado's Jewish children with his sonic booms and low altitude maneuvers...bannn himmm!!! No but really, the ACLU think's Christmas makes Jewish school students feel "no longer feel safe or welcome"...did anyone ask them what do they mean by this? How does Christmas endanger kids?Col. Well, they're forcing them to take Jingle Bells out, which is secular despite being related to Christmas. I think it logically follows that the stuff of a religious nature is gone, as well.Col. Until I see the full text of that letter, I'm not believing anything that worthless shitrag WorldNetDaily says about it. Or didn't you notice the Editor's Note in the article?

I saw a thing about this on Headline News the other night, Mike. I love how religious extremists refuse to recognize the courts as an important part of the legislative process. They like to piss and whine about how, "Oh, it's just the courts that have ruled that public school prayer is illegal. No one cares about the courts."

I'd agree if Christmas celebrations in school were religious, but they aren't. They're commercialized Christmas, which is as Christian as Buddha.

It's a side comment in an article that was presented on another nightly news. You are talking about something completely unrelated to the issue at hand. Not that I disagree with you, but it's still a different discussion.Durandal wrote:See Mike's posted excerpt.Nathan F wrote:WTF does this have to do about the ACLU going apesh*t on singing Jingle Bells?Durandal wrote:I love how religious extremists refuse to recognize the courts as an important part of the legislative process. Christmas has become so damned secular its not a fucking problem. Hell, the Japanesse love any excuse possible to give gifts and they love the holiday (along with Valentines day).

I wonder if you could make a legal case that Christmas has become so secularized that celebrating it in public schools, so long as there are no overt references to the religious part of it, is not a violation of the establishment clause. That would be a neat little backhand victory.
As for this shit, I really wish the ACLU would just tell people "No" sometimes. They're practically the only widely known civil liberties advocacy group and they piss away their image and public goodwill trying to ban "Jingle Bells".

The Freepers have always said that the ACLU was excessively leftist, despite the fact that they defend rightwing groups all the time. This will only make them repeat their claims in a louder and more obnoxious fashion.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

That's not what's at contention; what's at contention is precisely which parts of it they want to do away with. We know they don't want to keep kids in school through Christmas, so obviously they don't want to get rid of the entire holiday. But they provide no direct excerpt from the ACLU letter except for a sentence fragment about some Jewish kid not feeling welcome. That doesn't raise alarm bells in your head, particularly given the asinine nature of the source?Nathan F wrote:I saw a thing about this on Headline News the other night, Mike. Christmas = Christians? When the fuck did that happen? Seriously. I was born to a Roman Catholic father and a Mormon mother. I didn't learn that Christmas had anything to do with Jesus until I was 7 and spent Christmas with my Catholic grand parents. Christmas these days has become a time really when people sit back, look back on the year relax and tell the people they love that they really love them and throw around a few gifts. At least that's how its always seemed to me and most of the people I know.
It is absolutely stupid that someone should feel threatened by Christmas, in Colorado of all places. That place is like Utah sans the Mormons. Its a well known fact that Christmas lost any religious meaning when the pope lost the copyright in a poker game with hallmark back in 1932.
BTW, in my lifetime (19 years) I have seen my end of the year vacation in school go from
Christmas Break
to
Holiday Break
to
Winter Break

So, whatever happened to calling it X-mas? Or is that a bad thing for some odd reason?

Perhaps it still has religious connotations, as x is the greek letter for Chi or Christ.RogueIce wrote: Yep.
