I think they overdid the Western theme in the opening scene, but it's till fairly good.

I want to see space combat, dammit!

Fox's new sci-fi tv show. It's a cowboys in space kind of thing. It's written by Joss (BtVS) Whedon. I caught the episode on tonight. It's pretty good. Not revolutionary but good.

You could tell Joss wrote this episode. It was too freaky (not necessarily in a bad way, but weird nontheless).

Which episode? I thought that Joss Wheadon only wrote the first episode(The Train Job), of the ones that were shown at least.

I think it's not bad, once you can get over the idea of a western show with space ship...

but one thing I can't bear about the dialogue. If they want to use Chinese in the show, at least make it a clear enough pronuciation. The way they currently do it is very hard to understand, (and there's no subtitle on those part too!)

The closest they've come is last weak when the Alliance ships put a couple of shots into the derelic ship.

Although, I suppose you could call The Serenity's crew shooting at that
web as space combat, but it wasn't eactly the uber-cool kind.

I'd say our best bet for some cool space combat on this show is either in a flashback to the war or something to do with the Reavers and the Alliance.

I'd imagine full blown battles are going to be relatively rare. In addition to the premise excluding much, they cost lots of money. Fox is notoriously cheap when it comes to sci-fi, so Joss is going to have to be tight fisted. I imagine we'll see a few spacebattles. He'll just horde the cash to do them by making lower budget episodes.

It doesn't seem like their weaponry is paticularly impressive, tho. It seemed like the Alliance ship was just shooing some sort of missle at the derelict.

I think the show is pretty much set up to avoid space combat in most instances since the ship is a cargo ship without any weapons. From what I've read the possibility of weapons being added could happen but I'd doubt it would be anything permanent. If [/i]Serenity had weapons you can bet that any Alliance ship they were "pulled over" by would be much more likely just to smoke them.

Better direction would be a start. Some scenes are way too dark, others the camera moves, and when you can't hear one character's dialogue, something's wrong.
