no worries

Post by Marcao »

Hey Arthur,

I can only speak for myself but no worries on my end. I would be capable of posting tonight, but I will wait until Hotfoot takes the lead. It makes sense, considering they are coming to visit him and Ernesto is sorta an uninvited guest. After he posts, so shall I.

Don't sweat it. Thanks for letting us know. :)

Beautiful, man. Simply beautiful.

I've been thinking about this for the last ten minutes. The more I think about it, the better I think this is. I want to compliment all of you for how you've all expanded your characters beyond the raw numbers from the character sheets. On top of that, it's a pleasure to work with pros, so to speak, who know how to stay in character.

Oh, and Hotfoot? You bastard.

Marcao and I are members of an ancient order of Roleplayers who spend years in Tibet practicing our "second minds". Glad to see it's payed off.

Of course, I enjoy the game as well, the character interaction is proving to be quite entertaining in and of itself. :D

Arthur Tuxedo wrote:After walking a few empty, desolate blocks, the pair come to the only standing structure worth mentioning at the exact address indicated.
Stavis looks around the area surrounding the parking garage on Westminister. He could see the all-night convenience store on Commerce street from where he was standing.

"I walked you farther than I planned. I'll be going now, but I'll drop by if I need a place to crash." He said to the bright-shirt guy, and started walking towards the direction of the store.
Arthur Tuxedo wrote:Before Stavis can take a single step... The gunman curses and shouts something over his shoulder, his words drowned out by the big block V8. "Get in, both of you!" Shouts Dr. Ham as he opens the door. The sound of another engine starting in the garage can be heard.
I must say, no offence or hostilities intended, but that's a damn dirty pair of tricks you've pulled onto my poor street rat. If the car hadn't pulled up right next to him and there wasn't additionally a second car and an angry sniper, Stavis would be making a 200-meter dash right now for the store on Commerce st. I at least wish I had a choice in following Lennox the full way to the lot on Westminster.

Oh well.

What's your problem? It's not like he took a character you mentioned in passing into a major NPC or anything. ;)

Well Jesus Christ! Here we finally have the opportunity for all the PCs to be together, and you're trying to wander off to some convenience store. I'm all about player choice and all, but I realized a few pages ago that letting everyone create characters with absolutely nothing in common was a big mistake and the sooner everyone was together facing similar situations, the better. Not that everyone has to be buddy buddy or on the same page, but I didn't relish the thought of having to do more mental acrobatics trying to think up a way to tie Stavis into what everyone else is doing.

Therefore, I thought railroading you a little bit here was necessary, but I promise that this is the last time. No hard feelings taken on my end and I hope this post doesn't leave any on yours either.

Then again, it's not like your new NPC is trying to put a rifle slug into your head, just because you walked too far with some random person when you specifically said you wouldn't.

I hope they drop Stavis off somwhere nearby. I was hoping to make it to Bubs' place before two, and work the store for him for some extra cash. That'd at least give him time to sort out his booty, or even pawn it off to customers. :)

Arthur: no, no problems at all. At bit of frustration of trying to figure out an in-character solution that doesn't get my character's brains painted on the pavement, but that's all. I actually kinda expected the adventure was going to involve some railroading in the beginning, so I'll just have to make due with the new trouble.

You did take on quite a bit of baggage with acepting Stavis into the group. If in the next hour the cops find a pair of bodies in an alley and an abandoned white muscle car a few blocks from Wesminster, don't come crying to me. :angelic:

Once again, apologies are in order. I was attempting to write my post, and quickly found myself unable to continue. I will have something suitable for posting come tomorrow afternoon, after I come back from classes for the day.

If there's one thing I can sympathize about, it's ADD. I have it too, you see. Bet you didn't know that ;)

Why yes you do. Tell him what he's won!

Announcer: Why it's a nine yard belt of 20mm high explosive shells delivered at 6,000 rounds per minute!

*Door opens to reveal an M61 Vulcan that opens fire, ripping Gerard to shreds in the first few shots, yet continues firing unnecessarily until the whole belt is gone*

Edited the post based on what Dirk did the last round, so Heath you'll probably want to do something different, unless of course you decide that Dirk is the kind of guy who punches an unconscious man in the gut .

On an unrelated note, I've decided how to handle XP. 1/2 of a point for a successful use of a skill, 1 point for a failure. Shouldn't be news to anyone whose checked out what I've done so far on the Big Book v3.0

I edited my actions, though they didn't change too much.

Am I reading that right? We get more XP for failing?

if you do something right you get a bit less experience than if you do something wrong. I figure that you learn more from your mistakes than your successes. I am not sure how I feel about that system, since it seems to be totally dependent on characters trying to do things. Since I am roleplaying, I am trying to avoid having to roll too much. However, if I am going to be rewarded solely or mostly on skill use, It would seem to suggest that people should be doing all sorts of checks in their posts in order to maximize their XP gain.

That's true. There should also be roleplaying XP but I haven't yet thought of a good way to implement that for a forum game. When I do, though, you can rest assured that it will be more valuable XP-wise not to make unnecessary rolls.

In a forum game you would implement it the same as a liv action. A creative way out of a situation, or using dialogue that is fitting of your character would earn you XP
