Electric shavers vs. razors

Post by PeZook »

In the style of "completely useless trivia", a question to all guys here:

Which devices do you prefer to shave with? Razors or electric shavers?
Which ones are better and why?

I use a razor. I've only used an electric shaver two or tree times and it did a horrible job.

Personaly I use razors, I just find that they shave closer.

Its a matter of skills :) A good samurai always chooses katana swords instead of a chainsaw ;)

I shave according to Bushido - sharp razors do their job swiftly.

Electric. Can't shave with a blade everyday, but I can with an electric.

EDIT: And the best electric is Braun's foil system. I've tried those rotating thingies Philips use, didn't like it; didn't do the neck area very well. Though neither does the Braun, but what can you do eh?

I've got an electric philips one that I sometimes use, though most often these days I use a razor.

I prefer my Gillette Sensor Excel. An electric shaver doesn't do as good a job IMHO. I'm i'm gonna do something there's no point doing it half assed, and thats what an electric does. Admitidly i'm still waiting for puberty to finish and all i have is mostly bum fluff.

I dont grow enough facial hair to need the close shave of a razor.

Electric does a nice quick job.

Neither. I use a pocket knife. Easy to clean and gives a nice close shave. As an added bonus if someone tries to assault you while you're shaving you can turn around and kill the fucker by stabbing him in the neck.

I like my Norelco, thankyouverymuch. Besides, shaving gel (even for extra sensitive skin) breaks me out in a rash.

I use an electric shaver for the rare times I actually shave. Mmm, rugged.

I shave with cheap gillette razors using each one only once but I keep an electric norelco razor at my office in case I didn't shave in the morning and realize I look too scruffy.

Electric Razors have never given a good enough clean-cut and smooth shave like I would want if I was "going out."

Standard Gillette Mach 3 every day, although I think the blade needs replacing as it's giving me mega razor burn these days. Electric ones, unless they're the cool one for shaving hair, do nothing, so I gave up on them, much easier to have a quick wet shave in the shower in the mornings, although the absence of a mirror results in missed patches, although curiously, I have yet to cut myself when shaving blind.

I mostly use razors. I've long used disposables (with the comfort strip) but recently I got a Mach III Turbo free in the mail and started using it. Unless the blades cost a fortune I'm going to keep using the thing because in most cases it shaves closer than disposables and it very rarely nicks me. It shaves very close much more easilly than the disposables and the one non-disposable razor I've tried.

I have a Norelco electric shaver with the 3 heads. If I keep it clean, lubricated etc.. and replace the blades once a year it shaves pretty well. I prefer razors because they shave closer so my face feels cleaner afterwards because more skin is scraped off with a razor than with the electric shavers.

The best electric shaver I've tried is a micro screen variant by Braun. It shaved the closest anyway. It seemed a little better than the Remington micro screen shavers.

I used my electric a lot when I first got it to get used to it. It worked well enough and if you never really get used to razors it might be a good way for you to go. They shave close enough and there's much less chance of getting nicked. I get "5 o'clock shadow" pretty easilly so that's another reason I prefer the closer shave of razors.

 I was just thinking. With all of the people here who've mentioned being too young to shave or shave much I was thinking back to when I started. I know I was shaving every day by the time I was 16 but before that I shaved every now and then when I started high school, back in 1983 (when I was 14). :D

Both. I use electric when I'm in a hurry. However, if I have the time, I do it the proper way and use a razor.

Have a very nice day.

I've found that a fighting my facial hair is a losing battle, so I just use one of those beard trimmer thingies, it makes a nice 2mm stubble quickly. If I wanted to be clean shaven all the time I'd have to shave twice a day, infact I did have to shave twice a day in the Army or I'd get crap about my "non-regulation appereance".

Electric razor, why? not much time in the mornings and it was a Christmas present.

I prefer just a razor and some shaving cream though, feels more real and is more accurate.

Likewise, cheap-ass disposable razor in the shower. Shower with foamy stuff made of soap works and is cheap.

Well, I didn't give my opinion at the start, since I was waiting to try out the razors I've bought at the mall today (my electric shaver was giving me a real annoying itch for hours at a time, so i decided to try the 'real method')

All I can say, I'm NOT going back to electric razors. Time-consuming maintenance, hard to scrape all the hair off, and you don't get this nice, clean feeling after you're done.

So, in the spirit of the thread: razors for me :)
