DHL Plane down in Iraq:

Post by MKSheppard »

A DHL plane has gone down in Baghdad. First reports indicate either system failure or hit by 2 SAMS. Crew managed to land and was taken out by Medivac. More info when I get it.

Yesterday, I think a charter flight got hit by a SAM and the wing caught fire,
and they were still able to land

Oh wait, this is the same one;

International express courier firm DHL confirmed that all of its staff were unhurt after what the US military said was a SA-7 surface-to-air missile strike on its Airbus A-300 aircraft.

Witnesses told AFP that they saw the plane's left wing ablaze before the plane made an emergency return to Baghdad airport, which has remained shut to scheduled civilian flights ever since the US-led spring invasion because of the persistent missile threat from anti-coalition insurgents.

Saw a picture of this yesterdar, was quite a close call, had it been further inwards of the wing it could've taken one of the fuel tanks out.

It was only a matter of time before SA-7s start finding their mark- statistics and all that.

Curious, however, that a SA-7 hit on the outboard wing panel when they're so primitively heatseeking. I'd have expected an engine hit.

The previous missile did hit the engine.

Does anyone have a link to a site with a picture of the damage?

Surviving two hits is pretty good or lucky or both. Show's that large planes can take a bit of damage.
