What is it with farm equipment and horrible accidents? Why would you even allow an 11 year old girl to come anywhere near this shit?

I've never even seen a piece of farm equipment. I don't think I want to. What kind of equipment do you need on a farm anyway?

Usually big tractors for tilling and with big rotating attachments for cutting and threshing the harvest up. It's the "big rotating machinery" part which is generally scary. But basically, any piece of industrial equipment is too dangerous for kids, and all farm equipment is industrial machinery. Even a mundane piece of shop equipment like a drill press is potentially dangerous, because the spindle can grab your clothing or hair and pull you in. Never ever EVER allow small kids near industrial machinery.

In the olden days it was various shovel like implements. Nowadays it's big harvesting equipment that can puree you. Imagine huge lawnmowers.

I've actually known or have known people that have known more people in the past 13 years that have been involved in some kind of farm accident then I can count on one hand.

Remember kids, getting run over by a tractor plow is not as fun as it looks.

Face/Off? Wasn't that a movie? Directed by Woo, starring Travolta & Cage?

I know someone here who nearly got mangled in a beet harvester.

Its India, in most parts people still have huge families specifically so they can put them to work in the fields and factories. Likely the equipment was on the old side and so required a lot of work to operate.

Yes, congrats on finding the pun.

Did anyone ever see a video at school about the dangers of industrial machinery? I saw one at primary school, remember it scared the shit out of me, all these accidents that happened to kids in this mock documentary set in the Victorian age. One girl had her arm ripped off by accidentally touching a conveyor moving at high speed in a textile factory. Another boy died from "drowning" in a grain silo he was messing around in until he fell.

No clue. I grew up around farm equipment, and I wasn't allowed near it while it was running unattended by an adult, and I also understood NEVER to try turning it on.

I kind of learned my lesson the hard way by crushing the tip of my finger in the gears of an old mechanical apple cider press, though, so go figure.

I can't imagine doing this purely for cosmetic reasons; wouldn't there be a lack of nerve connections to the new face, leaving it permanently numb?

It's more for burns victims etc. I'd say. Cosmetics would be stupid given the high risks involved.

Not to mentioned the high cost involve just in the procedure itself, instensive care, and etc.

This is something which needs to be address very soon because wounded soldiers do make up a large sizable portion of patients needing reconstructive surgery.
