Mystery US Army Patch

Post by Tolya »

Can anyone tell me what does this patch present? Is it an actual unit or more like MACV-SOG patch made for SOG veterans after Vietnam War?

It's the badge of the 101st airborne, IIRC. Marines in the US also use that slogan I think.

It might be some Ranger Patch aswell. Sometimes when elements of full units are assigned to divisions they make new patches. I'm not sure either.

The patch in that link is one of those jacket patches that tough guys who recently graduated from Jump School buy at Benning to make themselves look macho. It belongs to no unit of which I'm aware. The following is the patch for the 101st Airborne (Air Assault):

That explains why I got all sorts of weird results on a search. I thought it didn't look like 101st Airbornes true one. I take it real pros don't have this patch then.

Have seen patches like it on the young kids who've recently graduated from Basic Combat Training or perhaps Jump School at Ft. Benning. They'll also sometimes plaster their vehicles with Paratrooper or "Death from Above" stickers. Some folks like to record their entire 201 File on their bodies, jackets and vehicles. As for the patch in question, it looks like one of those "Me Bad" patches you can get in nearly any PX patch booth.

Most US Army unit patches don't have writing, and those few that do generally only have one or two words.

For anyone interested in other current US Army unit patches, you can find most of them off this page.

That looks suspiciously like a firing range target minus a few of the outer rings. :D

Maybe it is a firing range target? The one worn on the head? That makes me think Chardok has/had something to do with boot camps...working on shooting range?

And thanks for the reply's, they were really helpful.

First Corps, people! First corps! If i'm not mistaken, our resident company commander wears the same patch on his left shoulder.

(It's also called Eye-corps, for obvious multiple reasons) :)

That is indeed the I Corps patch, which my wife and I call the "fish eye" patch.

This is the patch I wear:

And the patch I wear...

Oh, wait, the Navy doesn't wear silly patches. :)

But, way back when when I was a young'un, we had the FLNG Explorers, with which we wore the patch of the unit we worked with. And that unit was this:

The 53rd Infantry Brigade

They're a Seperate Brigade too, which makes 'em a "mini-Division" or somesuch, and I've seen a bunch of 'em in news reports from Iraq.
