Another possibility is that they actually got the hyperdrive working while they were stuck to the ISD's bridge tower, but only barely. Of course, now that the EU has already created the unnecessary and irritatingly stupid idea of a "backup hyperdrive", I suppose that's no longer a viable hypothesis.

I personally like the idea that the Millenium Falcon hoofed it from Anoat to Bespin, and the two stars/systems (whatever) just happened to be close by.
What I really hate is the idea of a "back up hyperdrive". This isn't analogous to having a spare tire in the boot; it's analogous to having a spare motor in the boot.
It also seems to be poorly rationalised and contrived. However, the only place I've ever read of it has been in the D20 Star Wars RPG. Are there any other EU sources which state that ships, by design, have an extra hyperdrive?

No, most ships have them. In fact tis rare that a ship doesn't have a backup and far slower hyperdrive.Slartibartfast wrote:WEG. Not to mention that it is the ONLY ship in the whole RPG that has this "backup hyperdrive".
