What mission would that be? I can't recall any such task, and I've played and replayed it. Is it in Hong Kong?

Besides which, I do hope they've fixed the sneaking in Deus Ex: Invisible War. That was one of my gripes with the first game - the guards perception felt kinda arbitrary.

He probably means the one where Paul asks you to go into the captured NSF headquarters and send a warning signal.

I made sure to avoid killing anybody there since I figured UNATCO grunts to be mostly guys just doing their jobs...they've had no idea of any conspiracies.

When I was a UNATCO officer, I avoided killing when at all possible because I was a police officer, not judge, jury, and executioner. When I broke from UNATCO, I followed a similar line of thought that you did. These guys were just doing their job, fulfilling a duty they felt was just. It wasn't until after I was attempting to sneak out of that cell they put me in that my killer instinct took over. My brother was dead, I was to be next, and these people too pleasure in doing terrible things. They had to be eliminated... :evil:

The fact that I had just recently silenced my sniper rifle helped some too... :twisted:

Well it sounds like most people who play it like it. When i next need a game, i'll get this in the bargain section.

I was a stealthy player, not well-suited for straight-up fights. Plus, I could have sworn a MIB was one of the guys who busted through the door to Paul's room. So, I took his advice and ran like hell...

Yes, the suits were there. Just throw a gas grenade into the corridor and punctuate your argument with a few LAMs.

For the record, I was always a stealthy character (the thing that changed from game to game was the amount of killing and lethal ambushes I've done) as well. Hence why I always had a godwaful lot various fancy stuff I never used, but which came in handy in certain situations.

Besides: [SPOILERS BELOW!!!]

All you need to do is stay in the apartment with Paul and get "killed" before the MiBs manage to nail him. He then surrenders, and you will meet him in the MiB HQ and later in Hong Kong. The game will play mostly the same though, with the exception that Paul will be one of the people presenting the Final Choice to you at the end, in Area 51.

Or, you could just hide in Paul's closet, then exit out the front door after he kills the MiBs (there are three of them, backed up by three UNATCO guys; there are another ten or so in the 'Ton's lobby). It's more fun to take the approach outlined in the Sunglasses at Night walkthrough, though -- ambush the ambushers with your LAMs and some crates of TNT. The key trigger here is the bedroom window -- don't exit through it (use the front door instead) after the MiBs bust in to guarantee Paul's safety.

Just be sure that what you buy is the full game, not the "special edition" which was only a 5 level demo. The demo boxes were not very clearly labeled as such when they were first released.

Well, I can tell the slant hereabouts when it comes to Deus Ex.

That said, I didn't like it. But that's because it didn't appeal to me by its play structure; I found it too tedious and I wasn't patient enough to become accustomed to the change in play style from mindless shooters like Doom and Serious Sam. But that's a personal preference and not a slight on the game itself; I recognize that it was a well-recieved and interesting game, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. But bear in mind that I'm in the 'older gamers' category and my tastes are bound to be a little different. It's very likely that if you share my idea of fun and not fun, that you won't like Deus X, that's all.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Sweet Jesus... that's the best strategy guide I ever seen. It refers to TNT crates as "boom", for crying out loud!

This game is great. I've played it several times, each time abandoned it at some point and had to start over again. This time I'm more determined to finish it, and I'm already in Paris. The plot is great, but the weapons leave a bit to be desired (for instance the assault rifle sucks ass: each shot eats half the clip and will usually not kill an opponent - it's obviously intended as a henchman weapon. the shotguns have a similar problem - one shot will normally not down an enemy even at point-blank range)

The weapons I've decided that are worth carrying are: dragon's tooth, pistol, crossbow, sniper rifle, gep. The rifle is the best one, but I use the pistol to conserve ammo. when I'm surrounded I usually turn on my ballistic protection and let go of the sword :) There's a crapload of rockets and it's a very good way to save lockpicks on certain areas...

It's very immersive. I remember the last time I played I never got out of NY.

Do you have the combat shotgun yet? That's badass. Fires fast and only takes a couple of shots to drop someone. I think it's called the combat shotgun. It's the one that looks a bit like the gas grenade launcher in T2 but silver.

I can down any human with one shot of my pistol to the head, and anyone stronger with one shot of my rifle to the head. I usually need three from the combat SG to down a regular trooper :P I usually don't even need to use the scope anymore (only when really really far away). MiBs, I always kill them last with my prod, so I can loot them ;)
