Calvin and Hobbes. I can't think of any strip it had where I was dissapointed with the punchline (if it had one, of course). It was ended while it was still in it's prime, so that looking back, there is no resentment at all.

Dilbert. It makes me laugh six days a week.
Compare to Get Fuzzy, which makes me laugh three times a week.
Compare to The Far Side, which (reading the collections) is about two times.
Compare to Calvin and Hobbes which (reading the collections) makes me laugh once a week.
Compare to Garfield which (these days) makes me laugh once every two weeks.

The Far Side, all the way. In my mind, it was made for the quick witted. I used to hand them to a lot of my friends and get the response: "I don't get it."

Calvin and Hobbs would be my all time favorite. It's sad that it had to end when it did, as it seemed before it's time. I still have the Sunday paper featuring it's last episode. Other favorites of mine include The Far Side for it's downright silliness, and now-a-days Zits, for reminding me of what my life just four years ago was like.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Jesus dude! I know flaming on this board is somewhat acceptable and encouraged, but that was just a bit out of line. It's not like he's John Clarke or anything.Lonestar wrote: Wha..? Phillistine! You're as ignorant as a Baptist in a College Biology course!

Insignificant?Perinquus wrote: Look, just because your favorite comic strip is insignificant, and all but unknown is no reason to take it out on me.
Buddy, all three of your favorite comics are '80s-early '90's icons. I suppose you think New Kids on the Block and Vanilla Ice are the height of pop culture. Don't talk to me about insignifigant, when my strip has 500 newspapers globally and your favorites have....show of hands?A Guy living in the past wrote: By contrast, Bloom County, The Far Side, and Calvin and Hobbes have all had me convulsed with uncontrollable ...

That was it, really.
The comic?I'm not sure how you are making that connection from the fact that I like Bloom County, The Far Side, and Calvin and Hobbes. The words non sequitur spring to mind here.
Hey, it's been out 3 years. That's outstanding progress from a Local cartoon (Boston) to a Global one. Go read a few strips on comics.comGosh 500!

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

While C/H and the Far Side are my favorites, Dilbert and Overboard follow from afar.
By the way, I'm amazed at what shit also gets churned out by the newspapers. Family Circus/Circle springs to mind, as do a hundred different 'soap opera' comics, Cathy (it's the same joke OVER AND OVER AGAIN!), and 'One Big Happy'.

Incidently, after I become Lord Protector of North America, Liberty Meadows will be returned to newspapers.

I didn't want to start a whole new thread just for this, but I figured everyone would get a kick out of it.
Radio stations routinely pay money to people so that they will tell their most embarrassing stories on the air. Here is the what is believed to be a story of a "lucky" winner of one of these contests.
I was due later that week for an appointment with the gynaecologist, when early one morning I received a call from his office saying that I had been rescheduled for early that morning at 9:30 AM. I had just packed everyone off to work and school and it was around 8:45 already. The trip to his office usually took about 35 minutes so I didn't have any time to spare. As most women do, I'm sure, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn't going to be able to make the full effort. So I rushed upstairs, threw off my dressing gown, wet the washcloth and gave myself a wash in "that area" in front of the sink, taking extra care to make sure that I was presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment.
I was in the waiting room only a few minutes when he called me in. Knowing the procedure, as I am sure all women do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended I was in Hawaii or some other place a million miles away from here. I was a little surprised when he said,
"My... we have taken a little extra effort this morning, haven't we?" but I didn't respond.
The appointment over, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day went normal, some shopping, cleaning and the evening meal, etc. At 8:30 that evening my 14 year old daughter was getting ready for a school dance, when she called down from the bathroom,
"Mom... where's my washcloth?" I told her to get another from the cabinet. She called back,
"No, I need the one that was here by the sink. It had all my glitter and sparkles in it."

Anyhow, I still remain with Foxtrot.
However, The Far Side is a VERY close second, IMO, and I agree with CrimsonRaine ~ definitely made for the quick-witted.
Dilbert and C&H are not far behind.
